Supposedly one of the reasons for the '78 switch to green helmets was to make it more "QB-friendly" to distinguish Jet receivers from divisional foes since every other '78 AFC East team (Pats, Fish, Bills & Colts) wore white helmets. My 2 cents (tryin' to bump my 'rookie' post total to allow for posting 'images'): the white hats are the Jets..the AFL Jets. The Jets, Chargers (light blue jerseys/white helmets) and Raiders have classic AFL unis that ain't broke--no need to fix....oh and another thing: enough with the green pants/white jersey Marshall Univ./Saskatchewan Roughrider look already?--fugly)

Yeah, when we moved to the Meadowlands that was a way to clear up the TV conflicts and stadium conflicts in one swoop. Often we would play an NFC team or the Giants would play an AFC team that weekend, so one network could bring a crew in there and set up for the weekend to cover both games.

I heard something like that when Buffalo switched to their red helmets in 1984, but it makes sense that the Jets were thinking the same thing, too.

Regarding the green on green, it seems a lot of teams have gone to that trend and they often break it out for night games and mid/late season games. I don't know if the Jets did it on their own or if it was a league-wide encouraged thing.

It started happening before we moved. In '81 the Giants beat Dallas on Saturday in week 17 and we beat GB the next day to get us both into the playoffs. They did use to do it for TV purposes, I think it came from the 2 teams being so bad in the 70s and the local stations having to broadcast the NY games.

True. The Jets also played some away games on Saturdays around that time, at Miami in 1980 and 1982, and at Cleveland in 1981. Moving into the same stadium as the Giants just complicated the issue because now along with a TV conflict, both teams couldn't be home on the same day.

That's a scary pic, I remember that hit. I thought Anquan Boldin was dead the way he just stiffened up and didn't move. I was pumped when it first happened, but on the replay we all saw that is was a dirty and dangerous hit that luckily didn't end Boldins career.

Yeah, that game was way over at that point. I remember Arizona scoring 3 quick 3rd quarter TDs and thinking to myself, "only this team can put us through this much shit." That would have been an evil ride home if they had found a way to blow that game.

Yeah haha, we go up 34-0 and then its 34-21 at the start of the second quarter and I just thought, since we are the Jets we were bound to lose that game. Luckily we put some points on the board in the 4th and just closed the deal.

One of my all-time favorites. It was already posted in the favorite Jet images thread so I saved it for this one.
