Found this - sounds like the boys are pretty fired up today: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/teams/page/NYJ (Click on Archive) Aug 3 2009 | 5:08:07 pm The Jets have waived TE Richard Owens and picked up TE Kevin Brock, a Rutgers product and former Carolina Panther. Aug 3 2009 | 5:03:30 pm Rookie RB Shonn Greene, who practiced this morning after rolling his ankle yesterday, is dressed but not participating in this afternoon's special teams practice. He is with a conditiong assistant. Aug 3 2009 | 4:56:41 pm Punters Reggie Hodges and T.J. Conley are notable for their dramatically different drops. Hodges uses a standard flat drop, while Conley drops the ball point-down causing his punts to go end over end - harder for a returner to catch. Hodges has already booted a 95-yarder. Aug 3 2009 | 4:40:44 pm Offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said that rookie QB Mark Sanchez is getting more comfortable with his reads. The combination footwork and running game are still areas that he is working on, but he is making steady progress. Aug 3 2009 | 4:39:50 pm With the Jets quarterback competition well underway, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer discussed the current breakdown of reps between Kellen Clemens and Mark Sanchez. The plan is to get Sanchez more reps with the first team. But, Schottenheimer said, "You've got to earn [them]." Aug 3 2009 | 4:36:12 pm Reacting to Jets coach Rex Ryan saying yesterday that he expects DE Jamaal Westerman to make a name for himself this year, Westerman said, "I'm excited but I know I'm not where I should be or where I want to be. I've been trying to listen to everybody to pick up whatever I can." Aug 3 2009 | 4:08:51 pm DT Howard Green on punching RB Shonn Greene during the morning practice: "Shonn came out of the pile with something on his mind. I had to set him straight. We leave it on the field. He's a good guy." Aug 3 2009 | 1:00:15 pm Jets coach Rex Ryan on the fighting in this morning's practices: "I don't need them to fight each other." But he is not concerned that it will have any negative effects. In fact, he joked about having schooled the players in "rules of engagement." Aug 3 2009 | 12:09:13 pm Several Jets commented on the brawls earlier today. DT Howard Green, DB James Ihedigbo, DE Jamaal Westerman and both QBs, among others, said it was 'good" for competitveness and it was all left on the field. Aug 3 2009 | 11:39:23 am Jets QB Kellen Clemens fired off two consecutive deep passes to WR Jerricho Cotchery and Leon Washington for a 60-yard gain. He was picked off by CB Darrelle Revis on the next play. Aug 3 2009 | 11:05:51 am QB Mark Sanchez just threw another incompletion and walked off the field clearly frustrated. Aug 3 2009 | 10:26:40 am QB Kellen Clemens looks sharp in the morning's practice, moving the offense at a good pace. However, he just narrowly missed what would have been his sixth interception of camp, this time by S Kerry Rhodes. Aug 3 2009 | 10:21:00 am Things seem to have settled down for the moment at Jets camp as the team starts 11-on-11s. QB Kellen Clemens just threw a deep pass to TE Dustin Keller for a touchdown. Aug 3 2009 | 10:19:11 am The energy level at Jets practice is now through the roof. Players on both sides of the ball are animated and yelling. A fake fight was just instigated by Darrelle Revis, Rob Turner and several other members of the offense and defense to try to break up the tension. Aug 3 2009 | 10:02:08 am The second fight of Jets camp has broken out in less than 10 minutes with DT Howard Green taking a swing at one of the offensive players. The two units immediately converged on each other again. Aug 3 2009 | 9:56:51 am The first fight of Jets training camp broke out. RB Thomas Jones seemed to take exception with a hit DB James Ihedigbo put on him and the two started pushing and shoving. The scrum was, however, under control within seconds. Aug 3 2009 | 9:20:32 am Jets practice is underway with offensive guru Bill Callahan, the team's assistant head coach and offensive line coach, working with the offensive line on the tiny but critical hand techniques.
Sounds like they are really going at it... sounds like a real fun competition to watch Funny to hear Gholston not involved in the least....
I bet you could rip Gholston's jockstrap up over the back of his head and he would look at you with soft, soulful eyes. Somebody get a tranq gun and shoot this frigging guy with some long-range steroids.
Punters Reggie Hodges and T.J. Conley are notable for their dramatically different drops. Hodges uses a standard flat drop, while Conley drops the ball point-down causing his punts to go end over end - harder for a returner to catch. Hodges has already booted a 95-yarder.
i read he kicked someone during a fight and Ryan yelled at him.. who uses their shoes?? I mean really - he fights like a woman.
Those 80 other guys aren't under question about their fire and desire either Not saying he should be the center of a battle, but everyone here would praise Alah if Gladys name was thrown into this mix just to see any fire.
So if he fights in practice, that will make him a player? This is football, not boxing. Gholston should have been on the field last year on passing downs, not on the bench or in street clothes, especially when the Jets pass rush went in the tank down the stretch. Then we'd know what we have instead of the mystery we have now.
Well you're either a Mangini hater or Gholston lover it seems.. neither of which my opinions fall into.
yes it went 95 yards, but only about 68 in the air. earlier the same day Conley blast a 72+ yard punt in the air. I still maintain that had his not been caught, it would have rolled at least to 95 yards as Hodges had.
That's not it at all. We're just used to them being busts over the years and want to be proven wrong. I wasn't extremely happy that we traded up for Revis, and I was much less happy that the kid missed almost all of TC in a contract holdout in his rookie year, but after game 1 of 2007 I was already sold on him. The proof is in the pudding. Gholston seems to be a bowl full of oatmeal so far.
