12 team league can keep 3 a. rodgers qb(gb),s. smith wr (car) c.johnson wr(det) r.grant rb (gb).i'm torn between s.smith and r. grant.it's an auction league and i got rodgers and johnson on the cheap so they're locks grant costs a little more then smith.
I have to agree. Grant is not a RB1 option and Smith is a WR1 for sure. You could even have the chance to reaquire a guy similar to Grant's production at a much lower cost.
lol when i first saw the title i thought you actually made a fantasy soccer thread in the fantasy football section, in which case i'd have recommended getting casey keller if it's usa.. I agree with everyone else, keep Smith. I might do fantasy this year, I haven't in a few now..it's tempting.
Speaking of Megatron, he is getting close to being the best in the league. Seriously, he had a great year on a complete shit team. Imagine what a QB like Manning could do with a guy that good.
If Ryan Grant costs more than Steve Smith, keep Smith. If Grant was the cheaper of the two, I might consider keeping the running back depending on how your league is scored. Steve Smith is a beast, but Delhomme has been terrible lately. SS will usually put up huge points in fantasy - more than a lot of running backs - but for some reason, I think Ryan Grant will have a pretty good year. If your league is thin on running backs and you can't pick up a rookie like Knowshon Moreno, Beanie Wells, or Donald Brown...I might go RB. In 2008, Grant was a 300+ carry back. There was only 4 other backs with more carries. If Green Bay's defense wasn't so bad, Green would've been much more productive. Playing in a pass-happy offense, RG still rushed for 1200 yards...
Grant had a good number of carries, but that only tells part of the story. He is a non factor in the passing game, with only 18 receptions last season. Add to that, despite gettign 312 carries he only scored 4 times on the ground last season. It paints an ugly fantasy picture. I would not value him anywhere near steve smith, let alone at a greater cost in hat type of league. With only being able to keep 3 players, there should be plenty to choose from to fill grants role. Rookies Wells and McCoy are looking at good roles in high powered offenses this seaon as well.
It doesn't matter how many receptions he gets if it's not a PPR league. Adrian Peterson was this year's top fantasy back and he only had 21 catches. If running backs are more valuable in this league, Grant should be the choice...if he costs more than Steve Smith ,who is definitely the better player, I'm pretty sure backs are more valuable than wideouts. Like I said earlier, Grant didn't really get the opportunity to score many touchdowns because his team was always behind. Aaron Rodgers put up HUGE fantasy numbers in 2008. I think with an improved defense, the Packers will start with better field position...giving Grant more opportunities to score touchdowns. Rodgers won't have to air it out as much.
Actually in non PPR leagues the top scoring fantasy back was Deangleo Williams last year. He also is not much of a threat out of the backfeild. That said, the ability to be a receiver does effect value quite a bit in non PPR leagues. Receiving yards were more than a third of the total yardage for several top backs including Forte, Steven Jackson, Jones-Drew, Slaton, Gore, Westbrooke, Tomlinson, and on and on and on. Being a receving threat is not necessary if your Peterson or Michael Turner, but the backs it does not effect is a very limited pool. Grant put up horrible numbers last year in an offense that had a very good passing attack. His 4 TD's is an awful number and due to his lack of receiving skills he is set up to be little more than a two down back. I would most likly rank him outside of my top 20 fantasy backs. He is little more than JAG in a good offense fantasy wise. To put it in better prespective, Steve Smith had more total yards, more total touch downs and more fantasy points last year than Ryan Grant. All that accomplished in 2 less games thanks to a suppension. If thats coming at a lower cost the decision is easy. Grant is, at best case, a decent option as your second running back in most leagues. Steve Smith is a #1 receiver in any fantasy league.
