edit: Can a mod merge this....many many reports form TC Didn't expect this so early on , very surprised. Although you could file this under "nothing to see hear" at the moment. But still hmy: http://www.lohud.com/article/20090801/SPORTS01/908010337/1043/rss0904 Open competition my ass
Just go with Sanchez. I don't want us to continue the Jets tradition of changing QBs halfway into the season.
If Clemens wins the job outright he should start. Taht said if its anywhere near a 50/50 decision I would want ot see Sanchez in there. I jsut hope one way or another one of them sets himself apart at camp in a good way, not winning the job because the other melted down.
I hope Sanchez wins the battle but if Clemens deserves it I think he should start. He has waited a long time for his chance and he deserves a chance to prove himself if he earns it.
The defense is usually ahead of the offense at the start of camps. I'll be more concerned when they both stink somewhere in the middle of TC.
Clemens had enough chances, he had a chance to get the Job right away as a rookie. He got the Job handed to him in 2007, even thou that was an horrible situation for him, he didn?t even show flashes and had to battle Chad again at last years camp, when he showed enough, that Tanny went out and traded for a 39yo vet. And when that vet got seriously hurt, our CS had enough confidence in Clemens to let the vet throw away a good season instead of playing Clemens. I don?t think Clemens will ever be more than a carrer backup, and I feel that every Snap Clemens takes, is a snap we could use better by developing Sanchez. If Sanchez showes that he is ready for this league, and he won?t get eaten alive out there, start him.
No rookie is beating out a seasoned veteran starter. The '07 situation was horrible and he DID show flashes. When Favre came in obviously that door was shut. The organization clearly hasn't been overly impressed by him, but his opportunities have been limited IMO. That said, this is clearly his last shot as a starter.
Chad came off his second shoulder surgery that time. The only positive I remember is that last quater against the ravens prevent, aside from that, I mostly remember horrible decisions, poor pocket presence, inacurate throws and him running around like a headless chicken. I?m not saying it was ever easy for him to take the Job, but he clearly had enough chances to take it, if he would be, what we hoped he would be, when we drafted him.
And he had a good season (for chad) in '06 so he must have been playing well. When was the last time a rookie beat out an established starter? He looked bad for the most part but showed some flashes under pressure and helped the team win a few games. The o-line was god awful. No QB could have done well there. I don't believe he's had an honest opportunity until now. That said, if he can't beat out a rook, he probably is a career backup.
When he was drafted, he was 'damaged goods' which is why he fell out of the first round, according to top analysts. To say that hes had enough chances really is way off the mark. Had it not been for fan power, KC would not have been thrown to the lions, which with hindsight was the total wrong thing to have done. If he did have any confidence, it must have been ripped to shreds then and there, and all things considered did a good enough job. Don't confuse that with me saying hes good. The O line was totally abominable. Peyton Manning couldn't have played behind that line. I don't think there has ever been huge expectation from Jets fans about KC though , kind of lets wait and see. I really do hope that KC lights it up in TC and does really make an impression. If we keep him, great, if we trade him , his stock is boosted.
He DID show a lot of potential in 2007 and in my view was a better QB than Pennington who was beyond pathetic. It's funny, we attach a "franchise" label to a prospect and we give them all the chances in the world, but a really solid guy like Clemens gets none. Pretty sad.
Clemens has had the opportunity to stand up and just take the job outright in the past and he hasn't been up to that. That's what he's going to have to do here and I doubt he has the ability to do it. I like some of the things I see about him, but you need to have most of the toolkit available to start in the NFL and there are parts (accuracy is the big one) that he just hasn't shown at all.
This from Holy Joe Namath this morning Sanchez Steps Up In Practice, Clemens Continues Downward Spiral Posted by A. Greenbaum On August - 2 - 2009 I have been begging one of the Jets Quarterbacks to step up in practice, today, someone did. You would think it would be the player that has been in this offense for four years, and played in NFL games. If you thought so, you are wrong. Today, the rookie took over the team and possibly the starting job with a very solid performance during practice. On a cold, rainy day in Cortland, Mark Sanchez found himself with the first team more than usual. The move was probably prompted by Kellen Clemens looking like a turnover machine the past couple days, which continued in practice today. Maybe he learned a little too much from Brett Favre last season? While Clemens sat back and missed reads, overthrew receivers and continued to turn the ball over, Mark Sanchez lit it up in 9 on 9 drills with several touchdown passes and more importantly, no turnovers. Sanchez has the charisma this team needs and he?s showing his abilities in the worst of condition today against one of the top defense in the league. I have been calling for someone to step up in this Quarterback competition, and although I was pulling for the rookie, I was not sure it would have been him. It was. If the play of both men continue in their current directions, Sanchez will be the starter sooner than later. Quick note, as I am writing this as practice winds down, Kellen Clemens has just thrown another interception. In Rex Ryan?s ball control offense, he has no shot at all at starting. The Sanchez era starts sooner than later.
Even though it's a blog and if this is true I can see Sanchez getting dirty as well if this continues. Does our offense finally have a face? That would be a relief.
who is the seasoned veteran starter? if you are being so incllined to put clemens in the same sentence as seasoned veteran starter wow just wow explains alot. start sanchez and live and die by the sanchez.
hey Denny this is from guys on the ground up there in Cortland-just like Petro's reporting here-I tend to trust stuff from real fans who don't have to worry about offending guys they are going to have to make their living reporting about over true fans with green blood.
^ I hear ya. Just being cautious is all. Fans do know their shit except for those two idiots that got caught on camera nodding away at the draft when we pick up Sanchez.
