Dude, the deal is with the Pirates. It can't be bad. Remember the Aramis Ramirez trade? This season they're just dumping off everyone for anything they can get, which often isn't much. Huntington, try and not sound completely desperate when you talk to other GMs. It hurts your bargaining position.
Cubs got Grabow and Gorzelanny. Gorzelanny pitched damned well as a starter a few years ago. Good deal for the Cubs.
The Mariners asked for Montero for Washburn and after getting rejected took a 5th starter at best prospect from Detroit. Good thing we're paying so much into the revenue sharing to help other teams screw us.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/ht...009577029_heres_the_skinny_on_6-4_220-po.html Snap judgment: Good deal for Jack Zduriencik and the Mariners. They get a pitcher for their rotation, and they get a minor-leaguer with upside, for a guy that will be a free agent after the season. Once you conclude that the Mariners are out of playoff contention -- and it would take a miracle for them to make the postseason this year -- it was prudent to deal Washburn. And this is a good haul.
the yanks need a middle of the rotation guy, the only one left is Zach Duke i can think of. Give them B prospects and get it done.
Duke is one of the only good young players they have. In fact, he's one of like four major leaguers they have. Huntington is not giving him up for "B prospects".
Orlando Cabrera traded to Minnesota. Oakland is another team with an awful lineup. Still not as bad as Pittsburgh, though.
Nightengale has been pretty accurate today in his twitters(tweets? twits? i dont fucking know), so I think there is some truth to this. I want to know what was given up, suspense is killing me.
Pittsburgh has done a great job this deadline. They had a shitty core and the demolished it completely. With the money they've saved on payroll, they were one of the top spenders in the draft last year and project to be again this season.
Since it's not Agon or Halladay and looking at what they got for Lee I'm gonna assume it's Bowden+ a few other people, and that the elites like Buchholz, Anderson, Bard, Kelly are not included. If they aren't that leaves the door open on doc, imo.
He also said this 40 minutes ago "Mariners listened hard but rejected a deal from Red Sox for ace Felix Hernandez". I wonder what they offered.
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9875596 "The Indians' exact return is not known, but the Red Sox did not include either right-hander Clay Buchholz nor right-hander Daniel Bard in the deal, according to a source." Because they're actually going to Toronto for Halladay!
