Anyone remember this? http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2009/02/17/coming_out_swinging/ dumbass.
Sure, I'm questioning the article. Anyone recall just a couple weeks ago when ESPN posted one of those "articles" that "The List" had been released? There was an entire thread about it in this very forum. Oopsie. Guess that was bullshit that ESPN reported. I'll wait for actual confirmation before I believe it to be true. I'll bet you think you're really witty and came up with that all by yourself and no one has ever thought of it before. Right? I know I'm right. Don't bother to deny it. Besides, the second half of my name would be something like eefool. I have no idea what half of an H would sound like. So pray tell, why am I the fool here? I've said before that I am certain Ortiz has juiced. I simply questioned the validity of this particular story. Not wholly unreasonable given what I wrote above.
It taints the entire sport. Everyone cares and that is why the media is making such a big deal about it. Just because your cheaters were better than the rest of the cheaters in baseball doesn't make your titles any less tainted. That's condoning an entire culture of cheating. Two wrongs don't make a right. So that means the curse is still alive and well. 90 years since the Sox' last Untainted title and counting!
No they shouldn't. Those tests were taken under condition of anonymity. Yes, names have leaked out, and that's terrible for those guys, but everyone shouldn't have to suffer to "make it right." I want to know who is on that list as badly as anyone else, but you have to respect the agreement made.
It turns out ESPN was referencing a NY Times article. The source is the Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/31/sports/baseball/31doping.html?_r=1&hp oh well....
If there is something I have learned since the Arod/Manny deals have gone down it's that the only people who care about this anymore is the media. The fans don't really care hell Dodger fans have embraced Manny since the suspension... The media right now is on their own personal crusade and if you wanna deny guys like Barry and Manny a spot in Cooperstown that's your right but the fans don't really care what these guys think.
I think it's complete bullshit what's happened to ARod, Manny, Ortiz, and Sosa. They took the test under the impression it would never be revealed... and then it was revealed. Shouldn't their be some legal issues with this? A written agreement is a written agreement. IMO, if those 4 should be thrown under the bus, everybody else should. They did the exact same thing. And I don't even give a shit about steroids. I just want everybody exposed not 4.
MLB condoned a culture of cheating long ago. Accept it and move on. You should probably accept the two WS titles too. They won the trophy. Deal with it. It's been 5 years...The curse isn't even worth talking about anymore. And if you are moronic enough to believe the Red Sox titles are tainted, then the Yankees '00 title is too.
And that's fine. The "article" you originally posted was 3 sentences long. Excuse me if I take it with a grain of salt. See, I think you hit the nail on the head, and this is why I think that is. Mark McGwire was a darling to these guys. They were head over heels for him and his home run chases, and he fed into them. Then, when it turned out he was a "fraud" they were all embarassed. Barry Bonds hated the media, and they hated him right back. There was never anything they could do about it though. They had to follow him, and they had to report on him, and they had to try to get a decent interview with him. When the chance came to exact a little revenge, they took it and ran. They expressed shock and resentment at guys like Palmiero when the truth came out after they had been duped. The media has to attack these guys just to save face at this point. They've spent so much time on this "righteous" anger that they have to keep it up. Plus, you know they'd just hate to have to go and vote Barry into the Hall. Personally, I'd love to see it. He's a first ballot guy if you call it "the steroid era."
In the spirit of fairness, ESPN never acknowledged that bogus list. Someone said they did in one of the threads here, but they were full of shit.
He's just using davecrazy logic. Who claims the 00 NYY title is null and void, by his train of thought so is the 04 and 07 BOS. Eventually, the DBacks, Marlins, White Sox, Cards, and Phillies titles will be wiped from the record books as well.
Well..if Ramirez was caught in '03 and then caught again in '09 is it safe to assume he kept doing them all the years in between?
You're punishing everyone though. It's unfortunate what has happened to the few, but like you said, an agreement is an agreement. I read the ESPN article's update though, and it looks like this whole thing is going up the court ladder, and that the list will make its way into a courtroom. At that point, it will be made public, I can all but guarantee it.
Yeah, absolutely. I'm just that having your players on the juice shouldn't invalidate titles. Do you give it to the Cardinals that year? If there were no steroids, maybe 8 different teams make the playoffs in '04. The Red Sox have won 2 titles this decade, end of story. Good for them and let's move on.
Ah, fair enough. See above. BTW: I hope you're not taking direct offense to my not believing the original article. It wasn't an attack on you, it was an attack on ESPN.
