According to Jon Heyman from SI.com....the Jays/Phillies are close to a deal for Halladay....but there's a minor snag.

the Jays want both J.A Happ & Kyle Drabek and an OF prospect (Dominic Brown or Michael Taylor I believe)....but the Phils won't budge on Drabek.

I always thought Ricciardi is a fucking moron in general (the Frank Thomas deal was embarrassing...and when he pissed away the Marcum for Jason Bay deal at the deadline last year made me want to lynch him even more)....but if he's going to trade Halladay..i hope he's steadfast...and doesn't settle for less than a pkg including Drabek/Happ at the very least.......I do have a hunch that he'll fuck this up one way or another.

You guys could've gotten Bay for Marcum?

Oooof. I never liked Ricciardi especially after the Dunn thing but wow.

yeah....it was leaked last year that the Pirates wanted Marcum straight up for Bay....and Ricciardi refused it outright......then Marcum went on the DL sometime in the following 2 weeks.

I wanted to burn Ricciardi's house down and piss on the ashes....after i heard that.

I would shit if that happened. I don't think that will be enough though.

I'd also be all for offering that same package plus Anderson for A-Gonz.

The Blue Jays have been given the choice of reliever Justin Masterson(notes), Triple-A pitcher Michael Bowden(notes), or Double-A first baseman Lars Anderson(notes) as the second player in the deal, with lesser prospects from the Red Sox system filling out the Boston offer. The Red Sox from the beginning have included Buchholz because the Blue Jays had made it clear he would have to be the starting point of any deal.

Bard and his 100 mph fastball have been declared off-limits by the Red Sox. So has Kelly, the team’s No. 1 pick last season who is torn between pitching and playing every day at shortstop. He made a spectacular debut as a pitcher this spring in Class A and now is being given the chance to play short.

I think the Jays are using the Sox to leverage the deal with the Phillies. Buchholz is a good starting point....but the pkg the Sox are offering along with him is laughable. If Ricciardi agrees to it....he should be tarred, feathered and exiled to the Yukon.

Anderson's a solid prospect but I agree MB. If they won't go back and at least talk to the Yanks while dropping the INSANE Joba-Hughes-Montero-Jackson demand after the Sox offer what they offered then Ricciardi is a fucking idiot.

    exactly.

Something is defenitly brewin' though......The Jays needed another offer to call the Phillies bluff with....and the Red Sox stepped up. Now we'll see who lays down the cards first.

Appears Ricciardi has blown negotiations with Philly, who have moved onto Cliff Lee...

No way they get him for that. They wanted both Chamberlain and Hughes plus prospects from the Yankees for him. I guess it doesn't hurt to try.

The Indians want Drabek as part of any package too. Lee is not the answer. They will be back on Halladay if they really want a pitcher that bad.

Not sure what this means, but the Phillies AAA team pulled three top prospects from their game this afternoon. ESPN speculating they are close to a deal for Lee.

And this sounds like the Yankees or Red Sox are involved if all these other teams really aren't. Both could use another catcher for the future.

"Mariners pull Clement from minor-league game — Updated 10:46 a.m.

The Mariners removed former first-round pick Jeff Clement from a Class AAA Tacoma game on Tuesday and later informed him that he is about to be traded, one major-league source told FOXSports.com.

Officials from the Indians and Rays, among the most active teams this week, said they're not involved in the Clement talks. The Red Sox and Pirates have also scouted Tacoma recently, the source said, but it's not clear if they are involved in the imminent trade.

Clement was the Mariners' first-round pick in 2005 but has never had sustained success in the big leagues. He's a career .237 hitter in 75 major-league games as a catcher and designated hitter. "

Turns out that was a 7 player deal between the Ms and the Pirates. Also looks like the Ms may be buyers and not sellers here.

"If Lee is traded to Philadelphia, Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi will lose a substantial amount of leverage. It would become possible that the rival Boston Red Sox ? a team Ricciardi would prefer not to deal with on a player of this magnitude ? will submit the most appealing offer, centered on standout pitching prospect Clay Buchholz.

At that point, Ricciardi will be faced with a difficult decision: accept Boston's offer and submit to facing Halladay multiple times each year for as long as the ace remains with the Red Sox; or turn it down and take what could be an inferior offer elsewhere.

Could another team make an offer that is competitive, relative to Boston's? Absolutely. Major-league sources have told FOXSports.com in the last 24 hours that multiple teams are involved in addition to the Phillies and Red Sox.

The list includes the Yankees and Rangers, with the Dodgers on the periphery.

By 4:40 p.m. Eastern, we should know if the Blue Jays are close on a deal involving Halladay. That's when the series finale between the Mariners and Jays is set to begin in Seattle ? with Halladay on the mound.

If a deal is imminent, expect Toronto to scratch Halladay.

One way or the other, the next 12 hours should be very telling."

    This could become fun (again).

I really don't want to see Halladay dealt to Boston. I usually don't look at any one move a team makes and say "That's the deal that makes you the champions" but Halladay to Boston almost certainly would.

Now I'm worried that Toronto is going to back Cashman into a corner. It's hard to allow Halladay to go to the Sox if there's any way you can prevent it.
