Thursday, July 23 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 7:05 PM ET
OAK Vin Mazzaro, RHP (2-6, 4.09)
    Athletics (40-53) @ NYY CC Sabathia, LHP (9-6, 3.66)
    Yankees (57-37)

    Scouting Report:
Athletics: Mazzaro's last start didn't exactly go according to plan, as the rookie gave up eight runs on 10 hits in three-plus innings against the Angels. Four of the runs were unearned, though, as Oakland committed four errors -- one by Mazzaro. After winning his first two starts, Mazzaro is winless in his past seven, and he has a 6.75 ERA in his past four starts. The 22-year-old will hope for better luck -- and some better defense, too -- as he faces New York for the first time in his Yankee Stadium debut.

Yankees: In his next outing, Sabathia will look for his ninth victory in 12 decisions as he draws an afternoon start against the Orioles. The lefty came away a winner on Saturday against the Tigers, hurling seven scoreless innings while scattering five hits, walking three and striking out four. He said he was too strong early in the outing but eventually settled in, outdueling Justin Verlander.

Friday, July 24 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 7:05 PM ET
OAK Brett Anderson, LHP (5-7, 4.25)
    Athletics (40-53) @ NYY Joba Chamberlain, RHP (5-2, 4.05)
    Yankees (57-37)

    Scouting Report:
Athletics: Anderson was perfect his most recent time out -- for 6 2/3 innings, at least. The 21-year-old rookie threw eight shutout innings against the Angels on Sunday. He allowed two hits, walked none and struck out six. Anderson now has a 21-inning scoreless streak going over his past four starts, holding opponents to a .124 average over that stretch. He surrendered five runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Yankees on April 22 in his third Major League start. With the way he's been rolling lately, odds are Anderson has a different outcome in mind this time.

Yankees: Chamberlain is coming off his first victory at the new Yankee Stadium, having struck out eight and pitched into the seventh inning, leading the Yankees to a series sweep of the Tigers in a 2-1 victory on July 19. Limiting the Detroit offense to only a solo home run -- Clete Thomas' fourth-inning shot -- and three hits through 6 2/3 innings, Chamberlain overcame early command issues and showed huge improvements after returning home to Nebraska to clear his mind over the All-Star break. He won for the first time since June 24 at Atlanta and had allowed seven or more hits in each of his past five starts. This will be Chamberlain's first 2009 start against the Athletics.

Saturday, July 25 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 1:05 PM ET
OAK Gio Gonzalez, LHP (1-2, 9.33)
    Athletics (40-53) @ NYY Andy Pettitte, LHP (8-5, 4.62)
    Yankees (57-37)

    Scouting Report:
Athletics: Gonzalez followed up the best start of his career -- two earned runs and eight strikeouts in six innings at Cleveland -- with his worst. The 23-year-old allowed a career-high 11 earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings against Minnesota on Monday. He's the first Oakland pitcher to surrender that many runs in a game since Barry Zito gave up 11 in 3 2/3 innings at Tampa Bay on April 9, 2005. This will be his first career start against the Yankees.

Yankees: Pettitte hurled 7 1/3 innings of one-run ball on July 20 and happily took a no-decision in New York's 2-1 win over the Orioles. Nick Markakis took Pettitte deep for a solo homer in the first inning, but Pettitte dusted off his briefly-abandoned cutter as Baltimore managed little else against the veteran left-hander. He left to a warm ovation in the eighth after tying his longest start of the year, posting a season-high eight strikeouts and scattering six hits while walking two. Pettitte beat the A's on April 21 at Yankee Stadium, allowing two runs on nine hits over seven innings in a 5-3 New York win.

Sunday, July 26 Tickets Yankee Stadium | 1:05 PM ET
OAK Dallas Braden, LHP (7-8, 3.40)
    Athletics (40-53) @ NYY Sergio Mitre, RHP (1-0, 4.76)
    Yankees (57-37)

    Scouting Report:
Athletics: Braden bounced back from a rough July 16 showing against the Halos (six earned on 10 hits in five innings) by tossing seven innings of two-run ball against Minnesota on Tuesday. He allowed five hits and walked four. Braden has never faced the Yankees. He's 2-4 with a 3.42 ERA in nine road starts this season.

Yankees: Mitre gave the Yankees exactly what they needed out of the fifth starter spot on Tuesday. Making his first appearance in the Majors since September 2007, the right-hander allowed three earned runs in 5 2/3 innings and picked up the victory against the Orioles. Manager Joe Girardi has given Mitre a vote of confidence and said Mitre will remain in the rotation for the foreseeable future.

Hey, maybe you guys can sweep another 3rd or 4th place team!

And he posted pitching matchups. Blew his karma. No sweep.

This month you guys have lost 2 of 3 to Seattle, 1 of 3 to Oakland, 1 of 4 to KC, 2 of 3 to Toronto, and were swept by Texas. Not one of those teams is a first place team.

Meanwhile, we've lost 1 of 3 to Seattle, 1 of 4 to Toronto, swept Minny, got swept in 3 by LAA, swept Detroit, and swept Baltimore.

Every team we've lost to this month has a winning record. And we've swept a first-place team. Don't hate; red is such an ugly color. Oh, sorry...

Hopefully we can and hopefully you can get swept again. This time by a last place team.

On a side note, this could be the ugliest and most unappealing stadium in baseball.

Citi Field is head and shoulders nicer than that dump, players and team aside.

Its a fucking palace in the park, not only that, it had mystique, unlike the MO'S Zone, wtf is that??

Really dude, what's up with your Mets complex? Who the hell is talking about the Mets besides you and 6ftdeep who also mentioned them when I brought up how shitty the Oakland stadium was? That was the only point of my post.

Why you both felt the need to make a Mets comparison I will never know. I could give two shits about the Mets. But if you want to keep harping on this Mets thing, then I will tell you that Citi Field has ten times more of a feel than that "palace in the park" lol.

"Mystique"??? Try watching an A's game when the Yankees aren't in town. It has as much mystique as a Nets game at Izod. You'll never hear any baseball guy outside of Oakland say the Oakland Coliseum has mystique. That's quite funny.

And yeah, I've been there a few times. Have you?

Those grandstand seats in the upper level are probably the worst in baseball. You need binoculars to watch the game. The battleship in centerfield, lots of mystique there. It's an abomination but it sounds like you view it as one of the cathedrals of baseball. To each his own.

Which team are you talking about?

Iata is like a kid I knew in college...he's an Atlanta fan, because he traveled through there in a car one time, He likes the Rockies because he likes Coors light, he likes Boston because that's the cool thing to do, he likes San Francisco because that was his favorite season of the Real World...

I never said they weren't. I'm merely commenting on the shittiness of the Oakland Coliseum or McAfee or whatever the hell it's called.

    No, you just said:

How the hell are people supposed to get "Oakland Coliseum" out of "this" in that sentence?
