If Miller is so good and Keller played at Miller's level last year - when Keller was a rookie - then that gives me a lot of hope for Keller, who will only improve his 2nd year in the NFL.
Hey, I never said Keller was no good. I'm saying he's not as well rounded because he's not a blocking threat, which admittedly doesn't matter in a fantasy football ranking. I also think you'd expect the smaller, speedier guy who was paired with the Hall of Fame QB to have the better average per catch. He didn't, and it wasn't close in that category.
Raiders always like to throw the ball more downfield. The Jets have shown they like a shorter passing game under the current OC. There's your difference.
I disagree. I believe the player who had 25% of the receiving production for his team to have better stats...not to mention TD receptions, then the guy who accounted for 13%.
You guys can't go on and on about how supposedly horrible Russell is and then say there's no advantage to being paired with Brett Freaking Favre. So Miller had better numbers (save TDs) with an inexperienced young QB. We'll see how Keller does in that scenario this year.
True, but you also need to logs at the game logs if you want to go deep into it. Miller had nice even production for most of the year. With only game in which he had no receptions and no games over 100 yards, though the first SD game was close. For what ever reason he only had one TD last season and that was a 63 yard one, so he's not getting used in the Red Zone enough to warrent a high fantasy ranking. Keller had more dynamic production when he got into the line up. Most of his yards and TD's came in the middle chunk of the season while the Jets were on a roll. His longest TD catch was 24 yards, showing that the Jets used him more in the Red Zone (2 of his 3 TD were RZ) then Miller was. He had one 100 yard game and another close one at 87 Yards. Like Miller, Keller he will be working with a young QB and be one of the only real tested receiving options for his QB. If The Jets continue to use him in the same manner he should put up a ton of numbers this season.
Good analysis. Having said that, I expect Miller to be used in the red zone a lot this year. It's been a major emphasis of the Raiders offseason minicamps and OTAs as they were definitely lacking in red zone production last year. Also, DHB's presence as a deep threat will open holes for the TE that didn't exist last year, regardless of his stats.
You're right -- under normal circumstances, Keller would have had the advantage playing with Favre. But we all saw last year that Favre wasn't Favre, due to age, system, injury or whatever. It's not like Keller had Favre throwing to him like Favre did when he was lighting Defenses up in his Packers years.
They don't give out points for great blocking in fantasy. And he's going to be the low TE on the catching pole in NE with Smith (better hands) and Watson (faster) getting some balls thrown their way.
Just think it's funny that people are predicting great things for Keller with Sanchez/Clemens and suggesting that Favre of all people held him back. What a difference a year makes!
well, the knowledgeable posters know we are in for a 5-8 win season... its a QBs 1st full year - whoever is out there
No one is suggesting Favre held him back. Being a rookie held him back. Favre got injured, but that is of no consequence really. Keller should catch 60+ and 10 TD's this year, no matter the QB.
I don't think Favre held him back, I think Favre was great for him. Chad would have held him back, though.
Better hands than Baker? He makes some damned amazing catches and I don't recall him ever dropping a ball (fumbles are something else entirely). His problem is that he isn't a natural receiver: He doesn't use his body to separate the ball from the defenders and he sure as hell isn't going to be using speed to do it, either.
Yes he did. Favre never threw for over 300 yds in a single game all season. He was bailed out numerous times by the run game and never took any games over by himself. His most impressive spots were @ NE and @ TEN. Outside of those performances it was a faaar cry from a HOF QB.
Kansas City was a good comeback game. Even though he almost lost it, he made up for it by winning it. Any Packer fan would tell you thats normal.
Fair enough. I don't like normal Favre or bad Favre, and we didn't see enough of good Favre to warrant a 2nd season from him. Glad he is no longer our issue.
the great thing about that is the whole division is going to be around .500, so we still have a shot.
