reported on 1050 espn radio and wfan 660am, the mets turn down a trade for roy halladay.the mets where to give up fernando martinez, bobby parnell, jonathan niese and reuban tejada. what do you think????? should the mets have unloaded the prospects for a rotation of santana halladay pelfrey perez maine
this could be the first offer. also its said that the blue jays where also throughing in vernon wells b/c of his huge contract.
bad move, if i were the mets i would trade reyes for a bunch of prospects, they have a weak farm system as it is from the johan trade
Tough call. Holt and Mejda aren't in the deal, Fernando's been hurt...but we can't afford it. If we come on strong for some reason before the deadline we can reconsider, but for now, no.
And turning deals down like this is why the Mets will continue to languish. First of all im highly dubious this offer was made, especially when the Phillies "B" prospects can trump this deal. And if it was made and Omar turned it down then wow. Even if you don't make the playoffs this year, next year you go into the year with your top two starters as Johan and Roy. INSANE. But hey fine hang on to Neise and Martinez.
With all the injuries, the Mets can ill afford a trade of young players...for what? next year? They are 10 games out of it, they have no one on this team now that is stepping up and you want to trade for a pitcher when there are tons of other blaring issues with this team...mainly the manager (who doesn't know how to manage 3rd stringers) and the GM (who only makes deals that look good on paper) I would have never signed Perez to the contract he got. POS. and he's proving it now...can't even beat the lowly Nats.
I was speaking in terms of the hypothetical situation of the deal being on the table and people on this board not wanting them to take the deal. I'm sorry. If your a Met fan and you don't want them doing this your an idiot.
Omar deserves alot of blame not just for this year but for his general mismanagement of the team aside from the Johan deal since he's gotten the job. But I don't see how Manuel can be blamed when he's forced to trot out a lineup that has POS's like Schneider Murphy and Reed.
I don't blame Manuel on wins and losses with this lineup. I blame him on the constant terrible decision making and counterintuitiveness. And no, I wouldn't have wanted the Mets to have accepted that trade. There's a big difference between getting a 29 year old Johan Santana and getting a 32 year old Roy Halladay. This would be throwing a fresh coat of paint on a building with a rotting foundation.
He's only the best pitcher in the game, dominating lineups in the A.L. East. So imagine his success in the NL. I swear you Met fans make me laugh sometimes. What are you giving up? Niese at best will be a third starter. Martinez is the jewel of the deal, but you have better prospects in Holt and Wilmer Flores. Flores is your next home-grown player even if they have to move him to second. Otherwise your going to see him be a big trading chip down the line. So even if you think this year is over...and looking at the wild card situation and the lineup San Fran continually puts out there everyday its not...why the HELL wouldnt you want to go into next year with the top of your rotation as far and away the best in baseball. And the upside is if you squeak into the playoffs as a wild card who the hell is throwing two starters at you that can match your top two? No one. You beat the Dodgers in a 5 game series and from there who knows what happens.
Yes because every time I write on this board I'm treating it like a term paper and I give a shit about grammar. Why do people do that? Who nitpicks a post because of grammar? You didn't even give your position on the subject...
It has more to do with the fact that you called him an idiot while apparently not knowing some very simple rules of the English language. If you hadn't questioned Met fan's intelligence it likely wouldn't have been an issue.
