It's been awhile since I heard anything about Plax. So you think he will be a Jet this year?

a lot of reports came out saying that the Jets are no longer interested, and he may not even be able to play this year anyway.

there are other teams interested as well. a lot of different factors going into the decision but it would be pointless to speculate.

I agree. But since when does pointless speculation hinder anyone from engaging in such around here?

The entire offseason is based upon pointless, speculative posts. Thank God I've had my pointless, speculative PSLs to ponder, otherwise it would have been a very long, pointless, speculative off-season, that's for sure.

I seem to remember hearing reports that he'd be suspended indefinitely.

i think burress is a whole different level of pointless speculation. he is in so much shit it's impossible to tell when he'll be back.

not to mention teams keep feigning interest in him, so no one has a clue whether the jets really want him at all.

Only the judge knows for sure. If Michael Bloomberg has his way and influences the judge's decision, Plaxico's got to serve time. That's what NYC law says.... mandatory jail sentence. But now it's up to the defense lawyers to manipulate the system as best they can.

Goodell decided to place a cooler on fast lane attempts to sign Plaxico. By initiating the probe in the month before training camps begin he was telling NFL teams to back off and let the process play itself out, so that he would not have to step in and embarrass them (and potentially the NFL) if they actually made a move to sign him.

Plaxico is not playing in the NFL this season.

It's true. 2 years for Burress. And it's really hard to feel sorry for him.

kind of crazy if you think. Plax shot HIMSELF, and is going awya for 2 years. Donte Stallworth ran someone over, while drunk, killed them, and got jailed for 26 days, cause he gave a lot of money to the family. I think in this case, plax might have been better off shooting someone else, and paying that family. raw deal.

i do feel sorry for him

i guess shooting yourself on accident is 100 times worse then killing someone while driving drunk

what a joke! 2 years for that? the guy isn't a criminal. he had no intent to hurt anyone.

Bloomberg is trying to lay down the law as best he can regarding illegal handguns in NYC. The gun involved, while validly registered in FL at some point, was not valid in NY and the original registration had expired. Bloomberg's been craking the whip on this issue for some time, such that out of state gun dealers have posted "Wanted" posters of him in their shops.

His intent as to whether he wanted to discharge the weapon and whether he actually shot someone else is simply not relevant. The only point relative to intent is that he did intend to carry and unlicensed, loaded handgun, concealed on his person, and that the weapon discharged while he was within city limits.

If you're going to hold such a standard in NYC for the gun laws I couldn't think of a better poster boy than our friend Plaxico...

I do think this is a somewhat raw deal, considering he shot himself, rather than someone else.

On the other hand, you don't carry a concealed and loaded handgun into a bar, regardless of who you are. Hell, if you're that concerned with your own security, hire another bodyguard.

His crime was possibly killing innocent people in public by negligently carrying and discharging an unlicensed firearm.

He could have shot and/or killed someone because of his stupid decisions that night. He deserved all that comes his way.

while i totally agree with this, and plaxico deserves everything he gets, people who get behind the wheel of a car drunk deserve 10,000 times what they normally get. to be honest if you get caught driving drunk, first offense should be one month, second offense 6 months, third offense 2 years. on top of all of the fines you normally get. If you kill somebody it should be manslaughter and a mandatory 3-5 in jail....

I'm not going to debate with you that our legal system is flawed and has churned out some VERY questionable verdicts. However just because that is the case doesn't mean that Burress should just get off scot-free.

And he's lucky he only shot himself. Have you ever seen the inside of a crowded nightclub? If that gun was pointed in the direction of the obligatory large dance floor it could have killed several people as they were all dancing is close proximity. Burress is lucky to not have to deal with murder as a charge.

Exactly. This is why Stars who feel the need to roam the NYC nightlife hire bodyguards. If you just have to wear 100k worth of gold and Diamonds everywhere you go its best to hire someone else to save your ass. The sad thing is this will not deter the next dumb ass NFL millionaire from doing it again. All the talent in the world and to throw it away like this is sad.
