I said preseason.....I'm sure the decision will be made nearing the end of TC....but I'm assuming the announcement will be made sometime during the preseason games....barring any injuries of course.
While I voted right before week 1, it's probably sometime in the preseason. They want their starter to get as many meaningful reps as possible without getting him injured, but at the same time, they may not actually announce who that will be until the later stages to the end of PS. Then again, this isn't Mangini. Rex may just make the announcement and get on with life, assuming there is a clear cut winner to the "competition"
Ryan probably won't jinx anything by naming Sanchez or Clemens the starter until the decision is upon him the week before the season. Even if one of them has a stellar camp and the other is just good there's no reason to pick one before all the downs have been played in the pre-season. I think we'll be pretty sure who the starting QB is by the 3rd pre-season game but I doubt he'll name the starter until he has to.
I voted what I am hoping and that's about halfway through pre-season. I don't want to see 2 QBs sharing time with the first team right before week 1.
Well the first team will be opening the preseason. So it will be a first indication of who the starter will be. If it's Sanchez, then it's game over... he's the man!
I think during preseason we will have the best indication of where each guy is at. I'm hoping Sanchez is the guy.
after the third preseason game. I figure for that game, both Clemens and Sanchez will play a half, and that will be the final decision maker. Whoever is the starter won't play in week 4 and the back up will get to play probably the first half in week 4, then Pizotti/Ainge will finish up to fight for qb 3
+1 this way the starter gets the first half and some of the third quartetr of game 3 and the 2nd string finishes it
Unless he looks totally lost when the (semi) real bullets start to fly, Sanchez gets named in middle of preseason and plays first 3-4 games (of regular season). If he does ok (or perhaps simply not badly) he continues, otherwise game 3 or 4 Clemens comes in, then he gets maybe a 2-3 games trial before Yet Another Evaluation. If it comes to that. In other words, it's really not until at lest 3rd game of season that we can really say who the true starter is.
Perfect. They don't want to wait until the last game. They don't want to be playing their starter. Probably not the backup much, either. Gotta be decided by game three at the latest, which makes the week before a great bet.
Hopefully it's Sanchez, throw him in with the dogs and let him stand on his own two feet like Tom Brady
