Goodbye Bubba. As a former 'Cane I can only say: Brett's gone; turn page.

I'd love to have a dependable hammer-blocking TE on the roster named Franks. But that was then...this is now. Bubba ain't Bubba anymore. Again, turn the page.

    Jack Simmons?

    Gulp~!

We probably should have held onto Baker.

Kolomona Kapanui, just for the name and he likes exposing himself in parking lots.

Certainly hurts our depth , but someone should shake out from cuts during TC . Some teams who have some decent depth , that may need to release or PS some TE's are (TEN, CHI, NYG, NO, ATL, ARZ). We should be able to pick up someobody who can block , as we have our pass catching TE already.

Rob Turner has played some tight end, maybe he can help as a blocker

LMAO. NE probably offered him the handicap spot right next to the entrance.

joe; respect your opinion but don't agree. Baker was a whiner and Ryan obviously wants no part of that. I haven't seen that much of Baker the last 2 years.I actually think a blocking TE shouldn't be that hard to find once the summer cuts are made--we already have a receiving TE.

    Bubba Franks

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Jets have released veteran tight end Bubba Franks.
Franks caught six passes for 47 yards in eight games, including four starts, after signing with the Jets last season. He missed eight games due to a hip injury, and was unable to participate in offseason practices and minicamp because of a knee injury after re-signing with New York.
The move Monday leaves the Jets with Dustin Keller, who had a promising rookie season, and undrafted free agents J'Nathan Bullock and Jack Simmons as the only tight ends on the roster. James Dearth, who began his career as a tight end, works exclusively as the team's long snapper.
Franks has 262 receptions for 2,347 yards and 32 touchdowns in nine seasons, including eight with Green Bay.

Now that he is Gone what do we do for Veteran Leadership and also we lack a blocking TE at the Moment...

Sorry YOU could merge the Thread I checked before and nobody posted on it...

Not sure why we cut him. Was he under contract, did we promise him a raise or we would cut him to come back last year to let him go somehwere else? I would like to know before I kill them but I admit, if he's under contract, why cut him before you replace him. Coles was different because we have 3-4 WR's in the waiting with the potential to be a # 2 & 3 and his contract was to high for his output.

I think only one out of those three makes the team (and probably it will be Simmons) and we pick up a guy during the final cuts of some other team... I wouldn't mind keeping Brown but probably there will be better value available come the final cuts.

PS when is the deadline for the 53 man roster? Thanks...

Ugh. Baker is being hugely overrated by people here.

baker will get a new contract with the jets, but first he has to go thru NE training camp, get cut on last day, then re-sign with the jets. we will then re-cut him after game 2

September 3rd we play Philadelphia and I believe September 5th we have to be down to our 53 man roster.

Oh and I think we only resigned Bubba in May trying to convince Brett to return.

This is a surp[rising move especially considering we appeared thin at TE before the move. Bubba must not have recovered from his injury or just showed he was finished as a player. We definitely need help at TE, we have an excellent pas cather but we need depth and a guy who can block.

Sorry and no offense- I know that the whole "veteran leadership" thing is big here, but there's nothing to say that just because a guy is old and has been around the league for a while that he's valuable in the lockeroom.

I'm sure that one of the elements of the "respect" commanded by older players is the fact that they've actually produced with their present team. Franks did pretty much nothing while he was here, and I'm sure that a young guy like Revis or Mangold can walk into a room and command at least if not more than that level of respect from fellow players, considering their work ethic and past accomplishments.

No big loss. A slow turd with shaky hands past his prime. If what we need is a blocking TE, let's see what Bullock can offer and I'm sure that one or two apples will drop from the tree as teams start to cut down their rosters.

What I mean by the Veteran Leadership is AT that Position... You do need a Player there to kind of open your mind up to Blocking Techniques, Running Your Routes Rights, Reading Defensive Coverages and Knowing what to do only becuz they have been in the League for years... Keller is Great but he Is by no means ready to Single handedly change the TE Game.. and thats only cuz his lack of experience...
