Yeah I think Groh had a better chance at success. He never really had a chance, considering the terms in which he took over. Carroll is just too much of a cheerleader. If I recall he was a pretty decent coordinator though.
Pete Carroll definately got the shaft, especially after keeping Rich Kotite for 2 seasons, but would never had made a differnce the way Bill Parcells did. The knock against Al groh is that the team totally quit on them. If I recall correctly, he started out 6-0 then finished 9-7. Not only that, he quit the Jets to go to Virginia.
The Jets started off 4-0 and then lost to Pittsburgh in a game where Vinny Testaverde got injured on the first play of the game I believe (if not the first, then maybe it was the 2nd play from scrimmage) and Ray Lucas was putrid in relief. The Jets then won their next two to get to 6-1 and had issues the rest of the way.
That's so true and it really gives you a sense of how awful Bradway was as a GM. Parcells had a great draft in 2000. Tannenbaum has had great drafts since 2006. 2001-2005 were generally horrendous.
Haha, USC thanks you and the rest of the NFL. Coach Carroll was born to be the HC of USC, he is to USC what Bear Bryant was to Alabama. Why would he leave to come back to the NFL? No NFL franchise would ever give him complete control to do things his way, he loves the tradition and pageantry of big time CFB, and we pay him just as much money as he can earn in the pro..and we love him. John McKay regretted leaving USC for the NFL to his dying day, his last wish was for his ashes to be scattered over the FB field of the Coliseum. We hope PC heeded that lesson well.
That's basically it. Without the deck stacked in his favor, and on the pro level, he was average to below average as a HC.
Oh my...we must have beat the crap out of your college team, lol. How ever will you be able to cheer for Mark knowing where he comes out of, and the fact he loves PC so much? A Trojan is for life.... I'll be cheering for all the guys in green, even if they are Hogs, Domers, Buckeyes or from anywhere else..I have no reason whatsoever to be jealous of any program the players come out of, or stoop to petty gossip....
Carroll did say he thought Sanchez isn't ready for the NFL. Do you agree or do you think Pete was trying to keep him around for another season? I don't watch a lot of college ball.
Alot of us still don't think he is ready. But, the kid sure as hell has talent. Mark's own family begged PC to intervene, they all wanted him to stay another year, including his brothers. He will have to take his knocks, and deal with an unforgiving fanbase.
Fair enough, thanks. We'll see. As for the fanbase, it's a mixed bag no matter what he does, especially on here. Somehow one of every three threads on this board devolves into a Chad Pennington argument/bloodbath, and he did a pretty good job here. From what I've seen of Sanchez so far and during the draft, he seems to have a good grip on things like the fans and media.
I don't know if it's entirely the same case. Pennington had just about everyone at first, and then slowly started losing the confidence of people, year after year. Everyone here, whether they believe in Sanchez or not, knows that he only has 16 college starts under him, but possibly has tremendous upside. His foot work alone is a thing of beauty. If he can play with Pennington's smarts, and have a little more balls, and the ability to go down field more often then you're looking at a great QB in the making. Yeah I know, that seems like an obvious wish, but I think he's got it. I could be wrong..it happens, but he's got as good of a chance at success as anyone.
The problem as I see it is that people jump off the ship very fast, after one bad game. Not just with Chad, with everyone. All Vinny did was win here and you have people saying he should have been benched off a 10-6 playoff season. Chad pulled a division title out of the abyss in his first action, we lose to the Raiders in Oakland on their way to the Super Bowl and half the fanbase still hasn't forgiven him, even though the whole team was outmatched. Clemens looked like shit but really only played 7 or 8 games and everyone is done with him. So yes, everyone loves Sanchez right now because he's the golden boy and hasn't played a down yet. The minute he has a bad game half the retards on here will want him traded, benched or whatever because he hasn't won the Super Bowl like TB and the NEPs.
The one thing that truly surprised me throughout all the recruiting process up till the draft was how Mark's arm strength was underrated, really surprised us...it's almost like, does anyone watch college football on the west coast? How do you miss great arm strength and touch on a QB? Throws great on the run too, lots of play action and roll outs.
