    Mario Urrutia-WR-Jets Jun. 25 - 6:21 pm et

Jets claimed WR Mario Urrutia off waivers from the Bengals, according to Scout.com's Adam Caplan.
A seventh-round pick last year, Urrutia is a tall receiver not without talent. His work ethic and character have been called into question, making him a long shot for future fantasy value even on a team with question marks beyond Jerricho Cotchery.

    small news, but it's june.

Urrutia was a pretty good wideout in college. You don't come across 6'6 230 pound wideouts too often.

If he cleans up his act, he has a chance to make the team because his only real competition is Marcus Henry...don't expect him to contribute much at all.

I remember there were a few here calling for him last year. He's certainly got the size to make an impact...

The guy was placed on waivers by the Bengals... and his work ethic and character have been called into question...

Sounds like Brandon Marshall without the NFL ability.

Its one thing for a player's work ethic and character to be called in question by a typical NFL team, but when a player's work ethic and character are questioned by the Bengals who basically set the NFL standard for having the most reprobates on their roster, that's really saying something.

His least productive year was his last year of college. If he can be as good as his Junior year he could be an awesome target at 6'6" 228 lbs.

If Rex can get production from Vernon, he can motivate this kid.

I don't know much about his character and those issues, but I remember watching him play at L'Ville (I think when Brian Brohm was there?) -- his size/athleticism cannot be questioned.

Yeah, there are some problems along those lines.

I always preferred Harry Douglas over Urrutia. Here was my one comment on Urrutia as far as this particular message board is concerned. This was from April 2008:

It's a Brian Brohm highlight reel, but you can see Urrutia making four or five catches. He's number 7.

He?s got a load of Talent, if he gets his head straight, he could become a good one, but that?s a huge IF.

Hopefully, he realizes that if he messes up here his career in football is done. Minimum salary, personal behaviour clause, no slack cut if he F's up... I'm wiling to give him ONE chance. He does have the physical tools. Lets see if he's grown up enough to get the mental side of it also.
