How do you think he is going to feel about playing for next to nothing, after giving up a 35K contract....
I've read that Ryan does not want him. Of course, Ryan does not have the final word in the matter but it would be a crappy thing for the front office to do to a Rookie coach who is trying to establish an entirely new approach and culture within the team. One of the cornerstones of Ryan's coaching philosophy is player accountability. Accountability to fellow team mates and accountability to fulfill one's responsibilities and assignments on the field. While Rex believes in making practices fun, he's also all about indoctrinating this team with a deep sense of mutual committment, trust and accountability between the players. I just can't see Burress fitting into this mold. He hates working out, he hates practice, he hates being at meetings and he hates showing up anywhere on time. While his potential contributions on the field of play are undeniable, his presence would also undermine everything that Rex is trying instill in this team. Add to that the uncertainty surrounding Laxico's eligibility to play this year and I think the team is better off looking elsewhere. If the stars align and his trial get definitively postponed until the end of the season AND he doesn't get suspended, AND he is willing to toe the line as far as being a good citizen on and off the field AND he is willing to sign a one year deal AND Rex is fine with it, I'd be all for it but for me at least, those are hell of a lot of unknowns.
Totally correct. The last thing that Ryan needs is a PIA who does not show up for meetings or for practice. Just heard an attorney say that Plax is not listening to anything his attorney is saying...and that is why this whole thing is dragging out, vs Stallworth who listened to his attorney & everything was done in no time flat.
I think we need to make a push for him assuming he can play the majority of games next year. Clowney/Stuckey as a #2 WR scares the shit out of me.
If teams are going to make a push for Burress, what are they waiting for? Shouldn't he have been signed by now?
I say hell no! All I remember about him besides the super bowl is that he was always hurt and missing practices. No Thanks Next
we need a true # 1 REC , that said I do not want Burress ,,,I pass would rather trade for Bolden ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,with Burress it is only a matter of time before his next incident
Yes it can. They've done jackshit in the NFL as of today so I CAN assume that trend will continue. The people who assume Clowney/Stuckey will suffice as #2 WR cannot make that assumption based on their history in the NFL. And let it be known, I'd love them to prove me wrong no doubt.
Yeah, cause he's had sooo many incidents in his career. He's another pacman jones. Bolden will cost too much and has injury issues as well. Plax will come cheap.
Really? I remember him carving up green bays secondary to get them to the superbowl. I also remember him demanding double coverage most of his time in ny. Can't say that about any of our current receivers. Coles was always hurt as well. And burress is better.
You didn't see the Giants Green Bay Champ game last year?!?!? That was one of the greatest performances in a big game in recent memory.
There's basically two groups of opponents who don't want Burress. There's those who think the Jets should get someone else instead to shore up the receivers. I can understand that pov, but of course all the other scenarios discussed have their own plusses and minuses. What I can't understand is the notion that the Jets should really not make any roster moves at wideout. That position is certainly not based on any knowledge or understanding that these guys will get it done. It's more a hope, or arguably a whistling past the graveyard. In the end, leaving it as is is just too risky...
Unless you can tell me with reasonable certainty that his trial won't be scheduled until after the conclusion of the 2009 season, no one can make a credible claim or rational assumption that Burress will be available to play in the majority of games for the coming season. If that information were available, he'd be signed already. It appears the NFL is not going to make a decision in terms of any possible disciplinary action until after the trial. If he is acquitted, there probably won't be any suspension. If he is convicted, I would expect there will at least be a nominal suspension imposed by the league.
Colin Cowherd is reporting that sources state that Goodell will be suspending Burress and Vick for the entire 2009 season.
So the Jets decided they don't want him knowing this before its announced so they don't have to answer to the politically correct police. SMART!!!!
I think we can almost safely assume that Burress won't be playing in the NFL this year which makes the idea of anyone signing him pretty impractical.
