He's fast enough to run on one leg and still burn every defender in the NFL. That is the genius of Al Davis. All Hail Jamarcus!!!!!!1

oakland hasn't had more than 6 wins since going to the superbowl. There are always big concerns there.

Might save time to list the "not a concern" list.

Can't believe Jeaux hasn't called this a ploy by Al Davis to mind fuck the AFC West yet.

The big concern in Oakland is that Al Davis has gone over the hill and there's nobody around to take the keys from him. I don't think Davis is incompetent by any means but I also don't think he has a clue as to what actually wins in the NFL these days. His obsession with speed harkens back to the days of the AFL and the gunslinging QB duels that it promoted. Those days are long over now. What wins now is what has always won in the NFL, great play in the trenches and decent supporting players outside it. He's doing things ass-backwards by building around the fast guys on the outside, that has never worked and it never will. If it worked then Randy Moss would have a few Super Bowl rings by now. Davis even got to see Moss up close in Oakland before he turned sour and he wasn't a difference maker there.

BTW, it's a common phenomenon of the aging mind for memories and patterns of 40 years ago to be more vivid than those of the last decade. My dad is 83 and he's definitely still mentally together but it freaks the hell out of me when he starts talking about conversations he had in the 1960's and 1970's as if they were yesterday. I literally have to guide him back into the present sometimes by reminding him that the person he's talking about has been dead for 25 years and he should be talking about them in the past tense, not like they were about to walk around the corner.

I wonder how often Davis looks at JaMarcus Russell and thinks "he's so close to being Darryl Lamonica, now if I could just get him some more speed to work with..."

How did this thread get changed from talkiing about a pulled hamstring injury (DHB) to Busts- Vernon gholston) Vernon Gholston(who reports are saying is not the sharpest tool in the shed) had his chance last year to show himself and he failed miserable and he still not progressing this year. Lets at least give dhb the season to see what player hes going to be.

Raiders offense should be very good this year. They defintely are going to be one of the top five rushing teams in football next season.

Lets look at their recievers. It starts with one of the best Te's in the AFC Zach miller. Thats a very big weapon right off the bat. Second reciever rb Darren Mcfadden- Raiders will move him around alot. Moving him outside occassionally to take advantage of his recieving skiills- going to be a nightmare for Lbs to try and matchup with. Bigger and faster Charlie garner type, as a recieving threat. Without a doubt Mcfadden should be right behind Zach miller as Raiders leading reciever. Excellent one two punch.

NOw you Have Chaz Schilens 6'4 225 4.36 43 inchin vertical jump. This guy could have a Brandon marshall type impact in his second season. The guy a big play WR threat who can do it all.

Louis Murphy 6'3 205 4.3 something- This rookie will have better numbers than Dhb his rookie year. He will probably work out the slot . Like Chaz schilens there are so many ways to use this guy to attack the field. He can go short, intermewdiate and deep.

Dhb- basically will be the speed threat to stretch the defense out. Open up parts of the field they want to exploit most of the time. Make it easier to pound the rock.

Javon Walker- don't sleep on Walker yet. Last year season was basically destroyed in vegas. Lets see where hes at this year.

Marcel Reece 6'3 240 h-back 4.42 - basically a WR playing as a Hback. Good luck lbs and Safeties who have to try and cover him.

Johnnie Lee higgins- going into his third year should be the year he explodes on the scene.

This Raiders recieving corps should be like night and day the difrrence between last year one anjd this year corps.

This is probably exactly what Al Davis is thinking and it's why the Raiders are likely to go 6-10 at best (again.) You win games in the trenches not with your RB's and WR's and TE's. Build a great line and you'll always be a bit better than people think you're going to be. Neglect the line and you'll be worse, no matter who you have in the "skill" positions. Didn't watching Randy Moss in Oakland tell you anything? If speed and ability to catch the ball was the determining factor in NFL games then the Raiders would have won twice as many games as they did in the Moss years.

Listen you put Randy Moss on this Raiders team now and he has alot better chance for sucess. We know why Randy Moss wasn't sucessful in Oakland. Yes a big part was Oline but also they didn't have other weapons and a consistant running game. thats not the case anymore in oakland.

Raiders again easily will have one of the top rushing attacks in football in 2009(top five) You don't get that without an oline.

Lets see Mario Henderson insertion into lineup at LT late in the season, was a big reason Russell and Raiders offense improved alot down the stretch. Raiders signed jaguars Left tackle Khalif Barnes(very solid LT) who going to play RT for the Raiders(Face a lesser opponet than he faced at LT) Big time upgrade from last year. They traded for a 24 year old Center Samson Satele who perfect fit for Raiders zone blocking scheme.

Raiders oline should be equally effective run blocking as well as pass protecting.

NOw you throw in one of the best TEs(zach Miller) Tell me Randy Moss couldn't have used a guy like that to take pressure off of him.

Darren Mcfadden- not only isn't Mcfadden a threat to take it to the house everytime he touches it. He has Charlie Garner type of recieving skills that a nightmare for a defense to account for. Randy Moss would have loved to play with a big play threat like that to aleviate all the attention being paid to him.

Now Raiders have alot of Wr's that are big 6'2- 6'4 that are all burners who are going to be tough matchups for Cbs giving up alot of size to.

When raiders had R Moss you pretty much knew who was going deep. Thats not the case anymore as any Wr could be the deep threat now.

This offense going to be able to run the football consistantly well. Teams try to take out that running game, they are opening themselve to getting beat for six very quick points.

BTw- This system works Raiders are building. They have the pieces to make it work. R$aiders are still arunning team that eventually will have a explosive passing game.(The Wr skill is unbelievable)
