I guess Greg Ellis doesn't really give a shit about winning games.

When I saw it on the ESPN Bottom Line last nite I thought it said Redskins...guess I was a lil sleepier than I thought. The Raiders defense shouldn't be too bad next year

Consider this an experiment. I posted actual football news with none of the spin or hyperbole Joe is known for and it still took only one post to turn it into a trashtalk festival.

    Well done gents!

Agreed there. Football talk is football talk. I reserve my spite for Raiderjoke.

Ellis is a nice short term fix for you if he acn continue to play up to a decent level. His signing should at least give you a rotational pass rusher, but I don;t see him doing much to fix the leaky run defense.

Poor bastard. Although, hes going to look like a pro bowler in TC going against that offensive line.

He's actually gonna look like a Pro Bowler going against Damien Woody, Trevor Scott beat him like a drum last year.

It's a good signing, but this move doesn't surprise me in the least bit.

DeAngelo Hall did say Oakland is the perfect place to go spend your last years of football for a large sum of money.

Yes, this is a good signing for the Raiders... unless they made him the highest-paid pass-rusher in the league.

I remember that Hall quote, but this is hardly a D'Angelo Hall or Warren Sapp type contract. It's reasonable, which is a big reason I like the deal. Ellis isn't there just to cash in. Playing primarily DE in a 4-3 as opposed to OLB in a 3-4 was a major factor for him. And his ability to do both will give the Raider D nice flexibility on third down.

This is why I said it was a good signing. Ellis didn't like playing OLB in the 3-4 (even tho he was pretty successful in it last year). Now he'll be in a system that he likes, so he should be pretty happy/comfortable playing in Oakland. Hope he doesn't become the defense version of Randy Moss next season.

Can you please post the contract #'s when they're available? Sorry in advance if it's already on the article. I haven't gotten a chance to read it.

    I'd heard 3 years for $7 mil but that's unofficial. I'll post if/when it's announced...

This is a good signing for Oakland. He's a bit long in the tooth, but can mentor the younger guys and can still produce. I think Oakland could actually be pretty good this year. The big question is can JeMarcus Russell play the way the Raiders envision him playing? If Gracia plays he will be able to win for Oakland in the short term, but that definately hurts Russell's development longterm.

Jmo The real genius of Al Davis that alot of people are missing from this signing. Let see The Patriots who are looking for a pass rushing Olb, have been reluctant to give the Raiders what they want for D Burgess. Its been widely reported that Patriots had a serious intrest in signing Greg Ellis themselves. The Raiders by signing the only proven pass rusher left, the Patriots might have to give Raiders what they want now to get d Burgess.

BTW- Mrelectric 29 your no GM.(poster) A guy who such a big draft guy should know what happens in the draft. It was inexcusable on your part that you didn't remember Denver traded away one of their first rounds picks next year .
You really think Mel Kiper or GM ever make that mistake.

Yep! We all know how the Raiders always get the best of the Pats in trades... Randy Moss?

Ellis supposedly hates to play OLB, which may have hastened his departure from Big D
