To me that's the clincher, get him in...and no cost to draft picks...gotta be worth a shot.

If he is mentally and physically sound and is willing to commit to good behavior I would think he would be a good signing. With the legal stuff hanging over him, he will likely be on his best behavior and looking to prove that he has grown up. He would likely make Keller and Cotchery better players and be a tremendous help to Sanchez/Clemens. Also I would think that the Jets would be his first choice. So lets Get R Done.

The guy is a top talent and would take enormous pressure off the QB and the other recievers by putting a threat that needs double coverage on every down and distance play.

I don't see why he would want to play for the Jets. There are plenty of places he can play and carry a weapon when he wants to go dancing.

Unless Ryan can sit on Plax, Plax is a TOTAL waste of time and energy.

Plax does not show up for meetings, he does not show up for practice, "oh, I had to take my son to school"...he is a MESS!!!

Great athlete, but he must have a brain the size of a pea.

Plax threw a 35K contract away...the guy is an idiot.

Nothing wrong with stupid athletes who perform brilliantly in the clutch.

I've spoken out against the Jets signing Plax in previous threads....because of his impending jail sentence (that apparently might not happen in the near future) and his reputation for being a headcase.

But......if he happens to avoid jail this season.....and plays hard w/ a chip on his shoulder....I'd support the Jets signing him. He'd probably come cheap, brings championship experience into the lockeroom, would most certainly "open" up the run game for our HBs, and Sanchez/Clemens would have that big target to throw to that this team has been missing for some time.

So there are certainly some positives.

One negative would be that Plax would probably be a "stop gap"....as I couldn't see him being in a Jets uniform longer than a year (because of his impending legal issues being deferred to a later date)....which would put us back to square one next offseason regarding our WR situation.

I dont see him as a top 3 receiver, but imo he's top 10. Everyone can have their own opinion, but if you're objective, he certainly is in the area of top 10. And its not so easy to get a top 10 receiver in this league, especially when its a position of need. GET HIM!

One year of Plax would be OK with me. At the end of that time we'd know what we have in Cotch and Stuckey, Keller would have an additional year of experience and we'd probably have a high '10 draft choice. not a bad stopgap measure.

Burress was in Manhattan court this morning for about 2 minutes with his laywer, Brafman.

As expected the case was adjourned until Sep. 23rd.

One interesting note brought up was that Goodell has only suspended repeat offenders in the past according to a league insider familiar with the situation. There hasn't been any precedent for a first time offender to receive a substantial league mandated suspension under his watch.

That said, if and when Goodell comes down on Plax it will most likely be a slap on the wrist (2 game suspension, 4 at the most).

So from the NFL standpoint, it sounds like Burress will have most of the season to play. Yet Goodell said he won't comment on the case until the legal issues surroounding Burress have been completely ironed out.

The Jets loaded up their draft picks this year on getting Sanchez. There are other needs on this team, and holes to fill next year, but they could spend a high pick on a wideout next year.

    Stopgap would be okay.

Hell yes.....he's a play maker. Not the brightest lightbulb in the box, for sure, but he's a play maker. I don't see who else is out there that would fit the bill, still be affordable, and be => Burress.

Edit: But short term only (1-2 yrs).....not under a long term contract.

Yeah, I am not saying I know this to be true, but if a team has already issued some discipline to a player that is in line with what the league might have done, the league will not add more discipline to what has already been given. Now if the team's discipline was less, that would be different, but five games was pretty stiff.

The Union is going to flip a shit if Goodel suspends Burress more than 2 games or so.

    1) He is a first time offender.
    2) He hurt himself, not anybody else.
    3) He hasn't yet had a court date, so no legal verdict has been made.

He'll be suspended in 2010, but not this upcoming year. If the Jets sign Plax, we're a playoff team. No doubt about it.

As I said "There hasn't been any precedent for a first time offender to receive a substantial league mandated suspension under his watch."

The Giants suspended him. The NFL and Goodell did not suspend him.

Two entirely different suspensions as to how they pertain to Burress' playing future.

The Giants suspension has no bearing on how severe Goodell and the league suspend him.

Goodell has said that he wouldn't do anything w/Burress until the legal part of it is decided.

Disagree completely. Giants management is part of league management. I think if he pushes his sentencing past the season and pleas to a minor offense, the league will take into account his 5 game suspension.
