Some things that have been on my mind about the offense lately. I was wondering if any of these factors actually matter or if I'm just looking for excuses to believe that the Jets offense will do some damage this year.

    1. I think Coles being gone could benefit this team. Why? Because IMO he was so in love with Pennington that I don't think he would be willing to develop good chemistry with Sanchez/Clemens. Another more concrete reason is that he dropped the ball 8 times (tied 4th most within the AFC). I really believe that guy was so used to Pennington's lame duck arm that it was difficult for him to haul in passes from a quarterback with a strong arm.

    2. The offensive line has been together for a year now. They're one of the best units in the league and for once all five guys have stayed. Each player on the line has strengths and weaknesses and hopefully, they can figure out how to play to each players strengths in blocking schemes. I think another year of experience for D'Brick is good as well because I think he still has not reached the peak of his talent yet.

    3. Schotty will now be able to call his own style of offense. We will hopefully see the same aggressive offense like we saw in '06. Plus, we don't have to "simplify" the playbook for that dunce Brett Favre. Now the Jets have even more play makers than they did in the '06 season. With Keller and David Clowney seeing more plays, coupled with Leon Washington and Cotchery, we could see a much more explosive offense than the critics are predicting. The Jets need to go back to using the same element of surprise that helped that shitty '06 team make it to the playoffs.

    4. Keller will see more balls go his way this year because he has more experience and he is the perfect target for Sanchez. as everyone knows rookie QB's love throwing to their TE's, and Keller could step up to be the primary target next year. If Keller is covered too much then Leon is always a one screen pass away from punishing the defense. Cotchery will no doubt work his ass off prove he can be a #1 guy. I love Cotchery's work ethic, remember when he worked his ass off in training camp to take the #2 spot? I think he will continue to elevate his game in the same fashion. Also Stuckey and Clowney will also have the advantage of there being no real tape to watch on these guys, hopefully one of them will take defenses by surprise.

    5. Biggest point, there will be no more dumbass strategies when we pass the ball against the leagues #2 best pass defense or vice versa for the run. I think even Rex Ryan even knows that that is just silly. :jets:

The offensive line being back in it's entirety is huge. We haven't had that in a long time, and the fact that it's year 4 of Schotty's system provides familiarity within the unit. WR is a huge weakness right now and it could make our offense somewhat one-dimensional but the run game should be a huge success with the pieces we have in place.

    Good Thread.

There is no way in hell losing Coles is a benifit. He's a damn good receiver and we're very thin at WR now.

Hell yeah. I can't remember the last time we had 5 returning starters on the o-line. I've also read that D'Brick has put on more weight in the offseason. That should help him continue to improve with runblocking which would be huge.

If Sanchez gets the start I don't think they'll be able to use the entire playbook right away, but I could be wrong. If Clemens starts I agree. It will be interesting to see if Mangini was holding Schotty back. I'm excited to see what he has in store for the offense.

God I hated those retarded strategies.

I think that getting rid of Coles could've benefited the team...if they had replaced him. If I were a rookie in the NFL I'd feel a lot better throwing to Lav than I would throwing to Chansi Stuckey.

I disagree here as well. At least for the first half of the season the Jets are going to be using the kid gloves on Sanchez, to protect him from defenses and from the media. Adding Greene to the Jones/Washington combo means that all Sanchez will need to do is keep other teams honest, and let his horses wear them down.

This I agree with definitely. If the Jets run as much as I think they will, other teams are going to be stacking the box and Keller will be able to get easy separation from linebackers, plus he's big enough to get position on safeties. As for Cotch, he may not have the athletic tools to be a true #1 receiver but he's an excellent security blanket.

We can only hope. During the Seattle game last year I just wanted someone to grab Mangini by the shoulders and scream "BLITZ YOU IDIOT!!!!" in his face. Hopefully Ryan understands how to make a halftime adjustment.

Coles was a bitch-pussy-Hanson boy, i'd hope that majority of jets fans would appreciate him being gone, he was a complete clubhouse cancer, and he was mediocre last year. fuck him.

I think while Cole's was here he did a darn good job for the Jets, Yes he left for the skins and he made a few bucks but this is a business and he worked it well. I will miss having him as our reciever and I wish him well.

I wanted him gone as well, hated his attitude and constant contract disputes, but I was under the assumption that when we let him go we'd bring in a suitable replacement. We've done nothing in that department and now there's a gaping hole at WR.

the offense lacks a big playmaker wr. someone who could burn the sidelines and run to the races. the wrs on this roster will not take us to the next level.

I think Keller makes the Pro Bowl this year with Gonzo going to the NFC. Now he just has to hope Gates gets injured again.

Coles is one concussion away of being finished for good. He was a warrior in his time and he has tremendous toughness. But he has a lingering turf toe, he is older, has lost a step and he plays scared bc he knows his next head blow could very well be his last. Getting out of his contract was one of the best offseason moves we made.

Amen! Coles has lost alot of steps in the past few years. Yes, I respect him, but he looked like last year that he was wearing Kyle Brady Cement Shoes at times. Time to start over, and Stucky will fill his shoes without the cement nicely. Let Coles deal with the Chad issues now to see what a Real, complete A-Hole can be like, much like himself. He was never a Wesley Walker of Al Toon.

i really believe that any reference to the jets offense should NOT include the name 'rex ryan'.

1- ryan really wanted shotty to stay with the jets and begged him personally.

2- shotty and the jets offense is 4 years old now. ryan is a rookie new comer that probably couldn't name the starting offensive lineman.

3- the reason westhoff is such a good st coach is that he DEMANDS total control over the schemes AND player availability. this 'total control of my unit mentality' is exactly what brain now has with the offense.

4- during half time adjustments, shotty will take his unit to the other side of the locker room and rex will huddle with the defense.

it's like we have 3 head coaches. we'll see if it works. it's worked out pretty well of westhoff.

I would love to see the shifting offense of a few years ago. Sucked that they had to dump it last year for Favre.

I liked Coles. He always played hard
I appreciated his candor and honesty (I don't understand why people didn't like him)
At least the man was honest. What happened to handling the truth?
Are we that thin skinned that we cannot deal with a man's feelings?
Coles played hurt and played tough
Some of you guys think we can easily replace that.
    We'll see
