Did not see this posted, so figured I'd throw it out there.....I guess only time will tell....Still think we need to bring in Burress even if its for 8-12 games this year Clowney disappoints at OTAs David Clowney - WR - NYJ - Jun. 12 - 10:18 am et Jets receiver David Clowney reportedly disappointed during OTAs, mostly because he dropped too many passes. Clowney opened spring practices as the Jets' starting split end, but lost the job fairly quickly. Beat reporter Rich Cimini still believes Clowney is the second best receiver on the team, but Chansi Stuckey is ahead of him on the depth chart. Rex Ryan favorite Brad Smith might be too. Clowney is not a good practice player. He disappointed coaches during his time at VT, and obviously he must have done something to disappoint Green Bay and even the Jets last year. When he is on the field during a game, he can play. I wouldn't worry about it
After reading some of the other tc reports, this is what I was afraid of. Regardless of how poorly he looks in pre-preseason, I think starting Brad Smith over him would be a huge mistake.
If you can't produce during OTAs and practice, Clowney won't need to worry about ever seeing the field. He hasn't showed that he could play when he was on the field very much either.
You mean the 5 plays he got on the field, burned the defense, and was underthrown by Favre? Terrible.
For me it takes more than 5 plays to all of a sudden become a productive on the field player... And if those passes make it what are the odds of him dropping it? I am a fan of Clowney, but I really don't get why people think he is our #2. He hasn't really done anything to prove it on the field, and he is lackluster in practice.
Again, he hasn't had opportunities on the field so I don't see how you can knock him in that regard. He was lackluster in these reported practices but you make it sound like this has been his MO since joining the Jets. He wasn't so highly touted with us for practicing like crap. I think many people WANT him to be the #2 based on his speed and flash. Who wouldn't want someone with big strike capability as a starting WR? The reality is, if he can get the job done, he'll play. If he can't, he won't. The way the Jets WRs are, more than likely it won't matter who the #2 is because I'm sure the Jets will run a platoon at that spot consisting of Clowney, Smith, and Stuckey. They'll all get their share of playing time.
That's too bad, I was really hoping he could step up so we could have a burner on the field. Hopefully he can get his shit together.
Haha, that's the first thing I thought too. Smith must have a free Wacarnolds hookup for Ryan and Mangini or something. Jets fans want Clowney to be better than he is because it would be nice for this team to develop a burner on their own. Just like everyone was on Ratliff's **** because it would be nice to see the Jets develop a gunslinger. Ultimately it's going to be pretty irrelevant (I suspect the Jets will jump on Plax if he can play even 8 games, and even if they don't the offense is going to mainly be on the ground this year) but hopefully Clowney can become a useful player.
Ryan said in his presser that Clowney was the only player left on the practice field catching balls from the 'throwing thingy'. (he didn't say thingy, can't remember what you call it) V V V thankyou.....Jugs machine
nyj.scout.com/2/872214.html " "(Did) you guys saw Brad Smith [on Thursday]?" asked Rex Ryan. "I don?t know if I?ve ever seen that kind of catch before. This is an amazing athlete. His hands are [huge]. When you throw that arm out like this, it?s not supposed to stick like it does. He made an unbelievable one-handed catch. "He made a great catch yesterday in the red zone running a route and he got both feet inbounds. I mean it was like, wow, alright, the kid?s coming. I mean, he really is." Another guy ready to shine is Chansi Stuckey. "We all know [Stuckey's] hard to stop in the slot," said Ryan. "Wayne Chrebet was the toughest guy I ever saw in the slot. The (Wes) Welker kid?s that way in New England. But this kid, you better have two on him because he?s got that special trait. He can make you miss. He?s got that wiggle. He can shake you outside, inside, break your ankles." The speedster of the group is David Clowney, who runs a 4.35 forty, but he needs to show more consistency. "I think (David) Clowney has had his moments - he?s also had his inconsistencies," said Ryan. "I will say this, practice is over, it?s been over for about an hour, and I see him out there on a Jugs machine with a helmet on catching passes, so that?s encouraging. He knows what we need. He knows we need him to be able to make those catches consistently. He?s out there trying to get better." For some reason Ryan didn't mention 6-5 Huey Whitaker, who had a terrific spring. And the given of the group is obviously Jerricho Cotchery, but that goes without saying."
no one mentioned Marcus Henry either. Brad Smith: I don't know what anyone else saw, but I saw him make play after play. I saw graet hands, great body control and not enough opportunities. I still ahve high hopes for him as a #1 across from Cotc. As for Clowney: being a speedster with questionable hands is enough, it really is. It won't make him a #1, but it will be enough. I'm not surprised that Stuck is being groomed for the slot even though he is probably the second best WR out there right now. I still think Keller is going to be the receving threat for this team. Cotch will still be steady, Stuck will get us some first downs, but Keller is going to be the player other Ds gameplan for.
