Wait, I have a question... Since we don't run a traditional 3-4 anymore, shouldn't that give us more flexibility in picking up defensive linemen? With our new system, shouldn't a guy that doesn't exactly fit the mold have a place on D too?
Good post. Being aware of this breakdown is pretty much why I hated on Kenyon Coleman so much. The amount (or lackthereof) plays he made while dealing with the least havoc along the line called for a change at the position (yeah, I know he's only supposed to maintain gap control yada, yada...). Ellis had a monster season at LDE for us, all things considered. Douglas will atleast match whatever Coleman brought to the table, at a fraction of the price.
