Weren't the results of that poll here a few months ago that most of this board believed Ratliff should be the starter, and Clemens his backup? If people were seriously satisfied with that, then you'll probably find that they're more than satisfied with Sanchez added to the mix.

I see your point (I'm in the minority with you I guess), but now with Sanchez aboard ... even if they cut Ainge, that's still 4 QBs if you add a veteran. That's quite a few.

Note that I'm assuming no one thinks Ratliff should be dumped ... but maybe that's changed now, with Sanchez on board.

Ratliff was traded. I'm not sure why you're bringing him up.

I'd assume they're satisfied with what they have on the roster right now. Either Clemens or Sanchez will start and the other will be the primary backup. I don't see us spending a roster spot on a 4th QB. The only reason to bring in a veteran is if we have serious concerns about BOTH QBs failing to produce this season, and there's not much use in worrying about the QB position at that point.

I personally think we should start the rookie and suffer through the growing pains year one! We moved all the way up to 5 for what? This is the core problem with the Jets for as long as I can remember. We come into talent and do not utilize it until its either broken , gone, or whining about money. If Kellen beats the kid out , so be it. I for one am hoping for Sanchez to step it up as the season approches.

Holy crap, that's right, I completely forgot about that. So many ex-Jets in Cleveland, I' ve lost track :)

Well, then yeah, it does seem we need another QB here, and the experienced vet is the obvious fill for it (if that's not the need, then why the heck did we trade Ratliff?) Again, I'm assuming Ainge is not yet serviceable for any extended play on game day.

Didn't Rex say that Schotty was our veteran back up?

There is no reason to sign a veteran QB, that's what the QB coach Matt Cavanaugh is for. Sanchez and Clemens will be 1 and 2 and Ainge or Pizzotti will be the 3rd QB.

No, we don't need another QB right now.

Sanchez will do just fine backing up Clemens. Should KC fall or fail, Sancho will step in to play, corresponding with the desires of the majority of fans.

This is all premature speculation though. Any assessment of the need for another QB should take place after at least a decent portion of TC.

Not sure why you think Ryan wants Clemens to start. Everything he's said indicates he's been a huge believer in Sanchez since before he was drafted. I'm not saying Clemens can't win the job, of course he can. But the idea that that's what Ryan wants to happen isn't backed up by any actual quotes.

As for Ainge, there's no reason to "hate" him. But teams don't jump up into the top 5 to draft a quarterback if they believe they've already got a quality young quarterback on their roster -- obviously what they'd seen out of Ainge didn't impress them. And besides which, in one season the guy managed to sustain a season-ending injury and get suspended for steroids. Pretty impressive for a guy who didn't even see any actual game action.

    1. Sanchez starts
    2. Kellen Clemens backup
    3. Ainge/Pizzotti as the #3

I don't see what the issue is here? That's not a terrible situation. I think we have much better needs to be worried about.

Sanchez will be the backup (if he's not the starter) and Ainge will most likely be the third string. This usually is what happens in our situation. Rivers was the immediate back up to Drew Brees in 2004 (best comparison)

Bingo, that's the guy I would take. Perfect and let Sanchez sit for one year

Huh. What does the QB coach have to do with playing QB?

    Clemens- Starter
    Green- Backup
    Sanchez- Inactive

    Trent Green is "perfect"?

Last year he played in 3 games and threw 6 interceptions and took 6 sacks. This while only attempting 72 passes (and completing just over half of them). So basically every 6 times he attempted to pass the ball he was either sacked or threw an interception.

He turns 39 next month and suffered season-ending concussions in each of the two seasons prior to last year.

I think the team would be better off with Clemens as that veteran backup. Or Brad Smith. Or Ainge. Or....

How about we get a punter and a TE first?

You have stirred a tempest of hateful thoughts from deep within me....

    Sanchez/Clemens- Starter
    Clemens/Sanchez- Backup
    Ainge- 3rd string

What is the issue here? We drafted a top 5 QB to come in and PLAY and more importantly WIN, not to sit on his ass behind a guy twice his age. If Sanchez doesn't win the QB spot by game 1, hes likely to be starting before the season ends.
