Should be interesting to hear what he has to say, hopefully he takes the high road and just says "my focus is on football, helping this team win, etc."...don't wanna hear the Jets get ripped to the media for a third year in a row by a disgruntled player
This is ridiculous - he benefited from the front loaded contract and now is whining because he's ONLY making $900,000 in base salary this season. Boo Fuckin Hoo. The Jets SHOULD give him a contract extension - he finishes these two years at what was agreed upon and then gets a Bonus in year 3. OK? There's your contract extension. now shut up and play.
So he sits out the voluntary stuff but shows up when he has to and you bitch? Not a very bright one are ya?
uhhhh, no. Give him his money. Not break the bank but give him his money. WHY? It was front loaded yes but he was paid an AVG. Salary for a RB and this year he's making peanuts for a Top rusher. Yeah, how many times do the JETS give crap up front and back load it then cut the player because of money? ALL THE TIME! They are constantly getting rid of their best players because of money. He’s made $13.1 million in the first two years of a four-year contract and he’s scheduled to make $900,000. In 2010, he gets $6 million but you know as the JETS always do, they'll cut him. So, the JETS should restructure and give him some of that money now but that'll never happen.
I love the constant personal attacks posters make here. I'm bitching because this shite happens every season with every player not happy with their multi-million dollar contract. The system is broken. You pay untested rookies millions for doing nothing but showing up and you have no way to reward players who succeed. How about fixing the system? How about creating a method for giving a player who has a great year a bonus AFTER the season? The guy is making $6 million a year no matter how you slice it. I'd be thrilled if my company gave me 3/4 of four years worth of salary on day one and just a meager paycheck. No one does this but the NFL. Wouldn't it be great if every player got the same base salary and they got extra money for succeeding? Starting player at your position? Extra money. Start all games? Extra money. Offensive TD - the Offense gets extra money. D keeps a team to 3 and out? Extra money for that D package. It would never work. I'm sorry TJ you had a great year last season, but you stunk the one before. Everyone get to your practices and let your agent deal with the money. I'm tired of paying outrageous ticket prices for losing seasons because players hold out to make a statement instead of creating a team worth paying their players top money!
TJ stunk in 2007? 1100+ yards behind that offensive line and he stunk?!? I understand that it was a record breaking season, but he hardly stunk.
The players KNOW that contracts aren't guaranteed WHEN THEY SIGN THEM. No point moaning when it becomes a reality.
Yeah, he stunk. He averaged 70 yards a game, scored 1 td and got paid 9 million dollars to do it...anybody without the blinders would say he stunk. If he was cut immediately after that I think he would have gotten another 3 million on top of that too.
He was paid well above average for a RB over the last 2 years. Even with the $900K this year he would still probably be in the top 10 averaged out over the 3 years. I do agree I think they should restructure. Give him another $1.1 this year to bring him up to $2 mil and drop down the 4th year to around $5. Probably not what he is looking for, I am sure he wants more but it should be enough to placate him and not break the bank in regards to the cap.
In the Bradway years we paid a few stars top end money and let our other guys walk. In the long run it decimated our O-line and Depth, something we are still recovering from. From the Leon thread where people needed to talk about Jones: Take note of the bolded part. Anyone who's been following closely will remember quotes from Tanny about this during both the Baker and Kendall incidents of the past few seasons.
He should look at the contract as a whole and be very gruntled with it, despite this year being a lean one.
I'm just curious. Looking back and playing behind that OL what would have been acceptable numbers for Jones to have put up?
at least he is good enough to come to camp any way, I hope he does not slack off but I'm glad he is coming in
