Oh I see, Don , find me a thread where I appear to be a KC disciple? The only player I would find myself rooting like a lunatic for , would be the son of one of our greats....that could happen with Nick Toon. Because Sanchez is becoming the emperors new clothes
I think if anything, it will start making Sanchez spit a little fire. I think a nice hard grooming will bring out his true playing ability. Supposedly he has a thick skin and will stick it in there. This little bit is encouraging.
It's way too early to say something like that Gus, come on! This is like analysing a marathon runner's first step - gee, he hasn't pulled away from anybody yet, he'd better pick it up with the next step... This sort of hyper-analysis actually obscures the truth. The closer you look, the less you see.
Sanchez is going to be a great quarterback. He will atleast have a great opportunity to succeed. Think about it. Each week he will be going up against a Top 10 defense, maybe even better. That will prepare him for playing actual NFL defenses, many who aren't as good as ours. Plus he has a great offensive line and a great running game. The wide recievers are a question mark, but not too terrible. No Curtis Conway. Sanchez is the luckiest guy in the 2009 draft class BY FAR.
Couldn't have said it better myself. I think the world of Mark Sanchez, but immediately after the draft I took my lumps like everyone else for advocating that KC starts this season. The best thing we can do with a rookie jr. QB is give him time. If he earns the starting job, that's one thing, and he certainly has the mental fortitude to stand in with all the usual rookie treatment, but I loved hearing that Clemens looked good in OTAs.
Fair statement, but Boller wasn't nearly as mentally complete coming out of college as Sanchez is. I think Mark will handle the hammering a lot better than Boller did.
Good point. He didn't come out of college with the same expectations that Sanchez has though. Atleast in my opinion.
Hey I hope Kellen does great two words TRADE BAIT the best thing that could happen to us is Kellen does well & we trade him for a second round pick. If Lito makes the pro bowl we will have one of the best secondarys in the game we will lose a second round pick to the Eagles but we will make that up with Kellen. This way we are good this year & in the future, in this instance we will have all of our picks next year & a extra seventh round pick for the Favre trade. Sanchez is the future of this team let him sit a year like Palmer did. First let Sanchez learn the O like the back of his hand before throwing him into the fire. Second let him learn what it is like to be a NFL player. Third let him learn what it is like to live in New York on the other side of the the country (New York aint southern Cali). Fourth this kid is about to get hit with a shit load of cash let him learn how to handle that. If Kellen does poorly let him play this year if not next year he is the guy.
I don't think he was either. My point is that the things you pointed to that would help make him great were all things that Boller, another 1st round QB, also had in Baltimore. Granted there are many, many other factors involved. I'm not saying Sanchez will fail or comparing him to Boller in any way, just pointing out that Boller had those things you suggested would help make Sanchez great. As an interesting side note, the last very good/great NFL USC QB was taken in that 2003 draft.
I like Sanch, but I'm not about to anoint him as the Messiah, not yet. Yes its exciting to have someone with so much potential on the Jets roster , but come on now. Lets at least see what he can do in TC and pre season before we build him up and then knock him down.
Yes, and both went to my alma mater. Of course, Sanchez left after his sophomore year. If Bob Johnson had been coaching at Mission when Carson was in high school, he'd probably have transferred as well.
Keeping this all in perspective, at this time of year D's are usually ahead of the O. Very often coaches don't have the Defense blitz much in the early mini camps. Not the case with Ryan, I think he wants this D to be Branded early and develop an attitude. I think it was in Boones blog yesterday he said in the two minute drill it looked like a jail break. The whole offense struggled at this point. Clements was only 5-13. Revis had to do pushups for dropping not one, but 2 Clemens picks. Nothing against Clemens, I like the kid. This is going to be a wild Defense, and are going to make things very difficult for both QB's. Especially for a rookie who has never seen anything like this before
I just hope we aren't going to have a few seasons of rotating QB's, i.e. Clemens starts for a few games, sucks, get replaced by Sanchez who in turn sucks for a few games, etc. Don't want a Grossman/Orton/Bears type situation. I really don't care which one starts or ends up better, they are both young.
Haha, that cracked me up. I hear we're due for some inclement weather. Holy Crap, can September get here fast enough?!
For real real? It's OTAs, why should anyone worry right now? If he is doing this week 17, then we might want to panic. Otherwise, it's just rookies being rookies.
There are a lot of people that have ridiculous expectations foe first round picks. Not everyone can be an impact like Revis.
i think the point to the situation is that the kid isnt going to be great every day. he hasnt proved anything yet and time will tell. so many people came on this board with their knee pads on when snachez did all those AMAZING things in rookie camp. and now some will come on and point to this as a reason why he may not be great. both sides need to chill and let things take shape. personally i hope clemens can show he is a good qb this year. however just like a bunch of other guys on this team he hasnt shown me anything that suggests he will be anything more than mediocre. so hopefully he can prove himself and earn some respect.
