http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d810536b4&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true Excuse me if this is a repost. I didn't see it though. This is ridiculous! Number 23??? Are you kidding me? Even the Seahawks, Bengals, Faguars, Packers and Shitskins are ranked ahead of us. I mean how bad was our offseason for us to fall at the bottom 10? Who did we lose besides Favre? And how great did he play anyways? Kellen can do an equal job in his 4th yr. We lost Coles, who is certainly not in his prime. Who else did we lose? Barton? Big deal. Coleman? Yeah we're screwed. Baker? Not exactly the best TE in the history. Barrett? Damn, screwed again. Nugent? Hodges? Elam? Probably the best one out of all of them IMO and it speaks volume of who we lost. Absolutely rediculous. We lost mainly backups, with Favre, Coles and Colemans exception. All 3 are replaceable. We picked up quality in Bart, Leonhard n Lito. Three starters that were badly needed! We got Shonn who should contribute immediately. We still have Leon and TJ. OL is intact. We were bottom 10 last yr aswell even after we traded for Favre. We get no respect and they will certainly be ashamed after we show them we are not at the bottom 10, rather the top ten this yr.
I would'nt dwell on this too much if theres one thing I've noticed watching football throughout the years is that most of these football anaylsts are moronic when it comes to preseason predictions.
We have a rookie head coach, a QB with little to no experience and a depleted WR corps. We also have the Patriots in our divison and a very difficult schedule. I wouldn't expect too many reporters to be picking the Jets to do anything this year.
Our rookie HC seems better than Mangini, who was less experienced than Rex. Kellen can not do worse than Favre. He should be just fine with the smash mouth kind of football. We lost Coles as our WR, not like he'll be an HoF. He can be replaced. Schedule seems more difficult cuz we have to face 11-5 tams four times, Pats n Dolphins. Brady is coming off a few major knee surgeries similar to those that ruined Culpeppers career. On the defensive side, we only got better. I wouldn't bet against us not making the playoffs.
How is a 9-7 team the 23rd best team in the league? That would be like the 9th pick finishing a game out of the playoffs.
Ok... Clearly Pat Kirwan believes that only a QB can win the game of football. Must be why he thinks we are going to fail. HaHaHa!! Were we the only one's that watched the all mighty Favre play last year?
I appreciate the enthusiasm and hope you're right about all that, but I think you're setting yourself up for potentially a huge letdown. Expectations should be kept pretty low at this point IMO. If they start playing lights out and your expectations aren't so high you just end up with a pleasant surprise. The other end of the spectrum isn't so pretty.
I'd say that's a fair ranking. Where would you rank a team with QB and WR questions? Probably around #23. Our record last year has nothing to do with this year.
Maybe I have higher expectations than I should, but I would probably put the Jets in the 17-19 range to begin the year.
have to agree here! we have a one year wonder of a qb that couldn't beat out john david booty at usc the year before. a first year head coach that talks a awful lot without having proved anything or won a single game as coach yet. and a bunch of #2 or worse receivers that are not going to scare anyone.
They figure that we will have a rocky start with the new QB and rook mistakes from the HC, but this means absolutely nothing remember the Falcons over/under last year was 4.5 wins and they went to the playoffs later that season.
it wasn't favre's fault. the jets are a place that good players go to die. im sure that is the rationale of all the favre nut-huggers.
