Lets see Raiders upgraded their QB coach. Paul Hackett considered one of the best Qb coaches around. Ted Tollner is the passing coordinator another guy with a wealth of knowledge in the NFL. He in charge of all the passing and those other assistants are simply reinformants of What Tollner wants. Meat and Potatoes is coming from tollner. Again Let me make it perefectly clear. Will the Raiders have an explosive passing game next year. NO They don't need to. First Raiders are going to have one of the better rushing attacks in all of football(top five defintely) They are going to use that running game to set up their passing game. IN time (another year or two) Raiders should have one of the most explsive passing offenses, but it defintely won't be next year. What the Raiders have is a consistant running game and a team with alot of big play ability- can score from anywhere at anytime. DHB or any of Raider Wrs are not catching 80 passes. What they are going to have is very very high yard per catch average. With around 7-9 TDs. Raiders are a run team first and have weapons to hurt teams bad you try and put 8 men in the box. PUt eight in the Box and there is a good chance your giving up six points fast.
So what did you guys do to Fix that second to last run defense that gave up 159 yards a game last year?
Haven't you heard? They drafted Mitchell. A projected 7th round pick Safety in the early 2nd round. That was the missing link to this defense. See, Mitchell will play Safety on some plays and pick everything off, so to make things interesting the coaching staff will line him up as an OLB, ILB, DE, and possibly, if he can put on about 10 more pounds, DT. He'll be all over the field. He was also brought in as insurance for Asomugha in case he goes down. He won't completely shut down elite receivers 100%, but 98.9% of the time he will. Jeaux is sure of it. The only problem I see is, what will they do with so much talent and so little time. Maybe they'll ask the NFL to extend games to 5 quarters and make it a 18-game season. Just so that teams can have a chance against the Raiders. Raiders Super Bowl Champions in 2009.
First I will admit Raiders haven't made as many changes as they have in other areas to fix that problem. Here is what they are counting on. Raiders expect their existing players to play better this year. 1. DT TOm kelly - coming back from ACL injury was out of shape for most of the first half . Those type of injuries take about two years to fully recover. T Sands- (contract year) has lost alot of weight this offseason. Gerard Warren 6'4 335 - Raiders sign Ryan Bochetti 6'4 310- supposedly a run stuffer The raiders DT were never really the Problem. The Problem was the DE were undersized and the Lbs didn't honor their responsibilty (over ran alot of plays) D Burgess and Trevor Scott will most likely just be situational pass rushers. Raiders drafted alot OF Des and LB/DE tweeners who might get a look on the run downs. DE Matt Schaughnesy could get a look at one of the DEs spot. OR they can move a DT (Tom kelly) outside to LDe on the run downs. Something like this LDE Tom Kelly 6'5 310 LDT T sands6'7 325 / Boschett 6'4 310i RDT G Warren 6'4 345 RDE Gunheim greyson 6'5 265 / Matt Schaughnesy 6'5 270 Longshot uDFA Desmond Bryant _ harvard 6'5 290 4.9 speed plays LDE LBs are Thomas Howard , K morrison, and the SSlb might be one of the tweeners they drafted Slade Norris 6'3 245 or Stryker Sulak 6'5 250 Raiders experience coaches have been really harping on the fundamentals everyday in the workouts. The lbs will honor their responsibilities. You might see Raiders lbs sent loose alot more blitzes. N Asomugha nad C johnson are both excellent Cbs playing the run and pass Eugene Hiriam 6'2 200 will be the FS and SS will be either Tyron Branch 6'0 205 ( (saw how great his tackling was on special teams) or Mike Mitchell 6'1 220 will be the Ss. Summary 1 Better coaching and really stressing the fundamentals. 2. Upgrade of Personel at certain positions 3 Raiders moving the ball alot more consistant on offense that there defense has a chance to rest. 4 Just players playing up to their potential 5. Raiders get out to a lead and teams have to pass to catch up. Lets See their secondary, their Cover lbs and the pass rush they can unleash on a qb.
I don't think anyone from college scares anyone in the NFL until they start dominating in the NFL. McFadden had a single good game against the worst defense in the NFL. He's not scaring anyone.
First Thomas Jones had 14 rushes for 54 yards against that worst run defense. Yea he really shredded thaT defense Your wrong. The tape dosen't lie . When Mcfadden played teams were keying in on him bigtime. Mcfadden healthy hes going to be a bigtime playmaker for the Raiders both in the running game and the passing game. Again still waiting for a Jet fan to take me up on that bet. Which team will have the better rushing team. Any stat you want toi go by. Now silence creeps into Ganggreen message board. Rest my case.
Correction sir, McFadden didn't have his breakout game against THE worst defense in the NFL. He had it against the 2nd worst defense of the NFL. How dare you diminish Darren McFadden's contribution to their 5-11 season.
Learn to read. Likle napolean kaufman, Mcfadden and BO Jackson while diffrent players , they all could take it to the house anytime they touched it. When you possess that kind of ability , you better believe that player is high on the opponets priority of stopping. A fake pitch out to a Rb land your freezing the safeties long enough for your Wr to get behind a secondary.
So why are every single Jet fan afraid to take the bet. Which team Raiders or Jets will have better rushing numbers in 2009. LMao because even a Jet fans not that much of homer, to make a stupid bet like that. I just hope adminstrators don't lock this thread . Like the thread i brought back that I predicted correctly , the problems jets defense would have in 2008 stopping the pass.
Jeaux....basically everyone on the Raider's roster can take it to the house anytime they touch the ball according to you. The Raider's have the lowest amount of wins over the last six years. The Raiders sure must be holding back each year waiting to take it the house every play.
Only McFadden hasn't shown the ability to do that consistently and the Raiders haven't shown they can capitalize on it consistently. Everyone might've been scared of McFadden as a rookie, but all that hype was basedon his performance in college against other college teams. When McFadden saw how much faster everyone on the field is--and teams saw how fast, not dangerous, and injury-prone he is--it exposed the 3-headed monster into "Aw man, that's just 2 foo's w/ Vargas 'n da backfieldz". Add in the fact that Russell...well, we'll just leave that one for now til a later time.
or like that thread where u predicted michael huff would be the defensive rookie of the year. or like that thread where u predicted revis would never make a pro bowl. or like that thread where u predicted the raiders zone blocking scheme would dominate, and be a top five rushing team last year. or like that thread where u predicted the raiders would come into the meadowlands and blank the jets with their super D and thus eliminate any chance they had of making the playoffs in 2006. i could keep going but i'm tired...
Nevermind, looked it up. He scored 12 times, in six years....that's TWO TDs a YEAR AVERAGE!!!! WOOOOOHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOO!
Well Joe, I'll give you this, for once this seems plausible. You actually recognized that the Raiders have a weakness and didn't do a whole lot to fix it. If health was Harris's problem they could bounce back in this area. That and coaching up the LB's to not over persue. It will be interesting if it plays out like that for ya.
Well when leon washington your big threat. The same Leon Washington who shi% the bed when he played against the Raiders. What do you know about big play threats. BTW did you read this little exerpt. http://chat.nfl.com/front/archived_chat/233 Quote: Thomas George, NFL.com Hey, Ray, among them is that Maclin was available for the Eagles to move up and grab at No. 19. I have talked to a few teams who were not at all surprised that Darrius Heyward-Bey was the first receiver taken, despite all of the flack the Raiders have received. Several have told me that he is, indeed, a rare home-run threat that will scare the life out of defenses deep. That said, Maclin was supposed to be, at least, among the top 15 picks. So, what grab for the Eagles. I have also been told by high-ranking Giants sources that reports they were trying to move up to get Maclin are totally untrue. The only receiver the Giants would have moved up to get is Heyward-Bey and that would have happened had he fell to No. 16. BTw i love the little quote Stanford Routt had with DHB while he was covering him deep. You only ran a 4.3 at combine , well i ran a 4.27 forty at the combine. Oh well Dwjight Lowery a 4.65 . Now you do the math . How many yards will it take for DHB to leave him in the dust.
Let's see, the Giants have Eli Manning throwing the ball. They have one of the (if not THE) best OL in football. They truly have a "scary" and accomplished running game. They also have good receivers in Smith and Dixon on the roster already. Also, they would've taken DHB at 16...not at 7. Even a WR-depleted Giants team didn't think the gamble was worth it that high because they knew that DHB was an Al Davis' type player. Hell, even I called the fact that DHB and the Raiders were more than likely the pair that would shock this Draft. Raiders don't have anything close to what the Giants have. So to say that a WR that the Giants wanted will now make the Raiders the Giants of the West is insane. We'll all be watching this year Jeaux. I'll give you your first excuse up front already. "Everbody knos it take a few years fro an WR's to develope. Next year we going to bring feer to this lEague. Watch out! DHB now running a sub 4.2, rusSelL finally hittin those 50 yd bombs 20yds near the rec eiver. 12-4 not out of questions."
