Yes I agree..but still..I think he's only getting 400-500,000 this year which I think is still low for what he's proven so far.
This is the best point yet...... but mark my words, leon willget his money..... if jones walks/sits/gets traded, than we got all we needed out of him......
The problem is I would give him 5 mill a year MAX... and it seems like he wants 6 or 6.5 a year... that does make a difference...
why we are still waiting to re-sign him confuses the shit outta me...get him his money..he is hands down our best offense player
I was going to say the same thing. Mangini and Shotty c^ck blocked Washington here. He demonstrated he has big play ability however, touched the ball few times, not enough to warrant holding the team ransom.
best player on our offense=why isnt he paid? I swear the only logical reason behind him not being signed would be theyre waiting to hammer our Sanchez's contract to see what cap number they can give him this year and load the other years
I wouldn't pay him. Let him hold out. If we make a policy of not dealing with hold outs, less will hold out. He will only screw himself. Eventually he has to come back. If he plays poorly because he is out of shape he looses value for his big payday. I would work him like a horse this year and see if he can take the beating. If he holds up, then I'd pay him.
I see some logic to this, but the Cowboys tried this with Emmitt Smith in 1993 and they started off 0-2 and then paid him what he wanted. While I don't think Leon is as good as Emmitt, I do think his value to the team is similar. The other side of the logic is also that if you lock him up at a certain rate today and he explodes at least you won't have to compete and pay him market value.
And before everyone gets all up in arms comparing Leon to Emmitt, I am simply providing an example of how sticking to your guns letting someone holdout can actually hurt the team. I understand that Emmitt was coming off of back to back rushing titles and that the Cowboys had just won the Super Bowl. Comparing the RBs are not apples to apples but that's not my point.
Yeah, I get what you mean, they are comparable in regards to their importance to their respective teams.
The Jets are famed for their player relations skills. I'm sure they'll whack it out. Oops, I mean work it out.
oh I agree Leon should be paid. But I think it needs to be done in one of two ways. Either after this season or an extension, where his salary stays the same for this year, and next year it goes up to 3-5 million. Giving in will piss off Jones even more and set a precedent we dont want. If you thought Baker was bad, you won't be impressed with the amount of guys going to the FO for new deals.
or we package 3 JAGs and a 2nd rounder for a potential franchise QB who has wowed the NY media... The New York Media.... and keep the most dynamic playmaker on the team. that makes more sense.
Pay Leon. He is so versatile.. the run O, pass O and special teams would all be weakened without his presence. He is also the only big play threat on the team right now, give him a long term deal.
