Yeah, I definitely noticed that about the penalties, big part of his game

^In addition, who's to say that Keller won't learn to block? From what I've seen, his technique needs to just be worked on. He's got the physical build to at the very least be an average blocker if he works on his technique.

Keller's full of talent and with our current WR corps, I see him having a very good upcoming season. I see Shotty trying to mask our WR corps' lack of experience/talent by having Keller step up and act as our pseudo-#1 receiver.

Can we hold off on comparing Keller to Gonzalez? I mean, honestly, you're talking about one of the best TE's probably ever. I'm a big fan and all, but these comparisons seem crazy at this point.

Can't say I disagree. Speaking of blocking as a side-note that is somewhat unrelated but ties in, Leon Washington wasn't picking up blitz early on and almost got Kellen Clemens killed. It can be taught, but there doesn't seem to be much of a substitute for good hands, either. It's a tough toss up. Blocking is a tremendous deal, but if I had to choose between Kyle Brady, Becht, and Keller, I'm probably not picking Brady or Becht. We'll see how 2009 pans out.

Knock on Baker out of college was that he couldn't block. He did okay.

Like I said, as rookies, DK was better than Gonzalez. That doesnt mean he'll have a better career than Gonzalez however.

i was very happy to see Big JC have a great rookie season with you guys..

Mayock said he'd be the best TE coming out, even with that 4.8 40 time which meant nothing. His football speed is way much better.

You took the rookie stats and compared them as the basis for your thread titled "Is Keller The Best Catching TE?". It seems like you're comparing their current play to me, but I guess I am wrong.

    carry on - in 2-3 years - i see

I look at Keller the same way I look at D'Brick. Can't run block? No worries, you'll get fatter as the years go by. They've got the important shit now (pass blocking, catching, respectively).

If they WANT to improve, they will improve. If Keller is Shockey 2.0 and genuinely doesn't want to have to block anybody, that's a different story. But from what I've read, he wants to become a complete tight end.

If Sanchez starts next season, I expect Keller to have a pretty big season. Almost always, a TE is a rookie QB's BFF. Don't know for how long he'll be able to get away with that since teams will surely key in on him by mid-season, but that's when we'll see how this kid handles it that will tell us if we have something special.

I agree with WSW, we can't compare established TE's in the league who have already cracked Top 10 All-Time Best to what Keller has done in 1 season. When he can block, catch, make plays, and becomes that endzone threat then we can begin making comparitsons.

I know there's a retard on this board walking around announcing that Keller is as good as Antonio Gates as well. Which is just crazy talk. Gates can stretch the field, has made catches while being double-teamed, made plays when they needed it most, and can run block. No way is Keller near Antonio Gates-status.

I didn't claim DK was better than Antonio...or Gonzalez for that matter. So you are probably referring to someone else.

I agree with u when u say TE is a rookie QBs BFF etc. Keller really took off in the mid season last yr, but didn't do much in the last 4 games. Probably due to Favre being ineffective. Mismatches that DK creates (or most other TE for that matter) is what makes him more involved in the offense. He has decent speed, good hands and tackle breaking abilities. Sanchez was pretty accurate in his college career completing I think over 65% so Keller should have a fair chance to catch a few.

I also agree with WSW. I didn't say (or mean) DK was better than Gonzalez. I was simply comparing rookie stats. Infact my opening sentence says it all.

A few catches from his college career. He is simply amazing. Good vertical leap, excellent hands, and makes plays after the catch.

I saw John Casrlson's video as well, but wasn't as impressed as I was with DK. He has good hands, but not too sure about his speed or his play making abilities after the catch.
