Bell just Kd the batter, but they said he checked his swing. Bad call.

Then next guy grounds to Kouzmanoff. 1-2-3 for Bell.

Extra innings in San Diego, as Adrian Gonzalez grounds into a double play.

Great play by Eckstein, and it's still tied at 3 going to the bottom of the 10th.

David Eckstein with a walkoff line drive down the right field line in the bottom of the 10th to win it 4-3.

What a battle by Chris Burke. Like an 11 pitch walk to set up the bases loaded.

Well there goes our mojo. Doesn't get any better than blowing a 6 run lead at pitcher's park against the worst team in the majors.

Ellsbury, Ortiz back Friday: Red Sox OF Jacoby Ellsbury (hamstring) and DH David Ortiz (neck) both returned to the Boston lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.
    (Updated 05/08/2009)

Youkilis out again Friday: The Boston Globe reports that Red Sox 1B Kevin Youkilis (side) will not be in the lineup for Friday's series-opener against the Rays. He has now missed four straight games.

The Orioles have also been starting Adam Eaton, and they're keeping him in the rotation. That's two batting practice pitchers. I'd be stunned if they finished out of the AL East cellar.

Only two pitchers have allowed more than eight homers this season. They both play for the Phillies. Jamie Moyer and Brett Myers have allowed ten apiece.
Joe Blanton has allowed 6. Cole Hamels and Chan Ho Park have allowed 5 each.

No other team or starting rotation can begin to approach these numbers. Funny thing is, the ballpark is 12th in baseball in ESPN's park factor in homers this year.

I think it's more that their pitchers have sucked.

Rockies bullpen in Coors Field today vs. the Marlins:

3 innings, one hit, no walks, no HBP, no runs, three strikeouts.

9 of 10 batters retired, with the line hit coming off Street in the 9th. Rockies win, 3-2.

Marlins only got 4 hits off Cook, so that was 5 hits total. Luckily for me, Hanley got 2 of those to keep my hitting streak going.

I've been listening to Dodgers-Giants, after it went to extra innings.

    Game keeps going.

Giants finally broke the 4-4 game with a run in the top of the 12th, and Casey Blake promptly homered off Brian Wilson in the bottom of the 12th.

    Tied at 5.

On we go to the 13th. Longest game of the season for the Giants, possibly the Dodgers as well.

Randy Winn with a 2 run single to make it 7-5 Giants. Top 13th still.

Giants win, 7-5 in 13. Now to turn the focus to Rays-Red Sox. Tied at 1 in the 3rd.

Washington-Arizona featured 18 runs and 30 hits in 8 and a half innings.

Those hits included 3 for Ryan Zimmerman and 3 for Justin Upton.

Zimmerman has a 28 game hitting streak (it started the second game of the season), and Upton has a 17 game streak. Those are the top two streaks this season.

Pedroia has a strained right groin, and Youkilis is still not back. Red Sox now missing the right side of their infield.

Longoria's numbers in nine games against Boston project to:

    .405 BA, 90 homers and 378 RBI

    over a full season.

Halfway through in Boston, and the Red Sox lead, 3-2.

    thanks. :)

John Miller with yet another ridiculously incorrect statement. "You just knew that Maury Wills would get on base"? Yeah, that accounts for his lifetime OBP of .330 (even in his four best years of 1960-1963 it was only .348). "You couldn't throw him out when he tried to steal"? Yeah, that accounts for his 73.8% lifetime successful steal percentage (in the 10 years in which he stole at least 29 bases, 1960-1969, it was 74.5%). Wills has to be the worst player ever to finish in the top 11 of the MVP vote five different times.

Speaking of stolen bases, Bobby Abreu is tied for third in the majors with 12 steals. He has not been thrown out. Odd, to say the least.

Crawford stole his MLB-leading 22nd base.

Ortiz just missed a homer by about a foot. He gets a double instead, off of Shouse. That will be Shouse's only batter.

3-3 in the bottom of the 8th. Runner on second, no one out, Wheeler coming in to face Bay.

Bay is up with a man on 2nd and none out and Joe Morgan is talking about bunting him over? It is absolutely staggering how little the man knows about baseball.
