Very well said. People seem to think it's easy to get a top 5 QB like Manning in the Draft. In order for us to get something like that, we'd have to look ahead to college prospects, and then purposely tank an entire season. Detroit Lions style.

I don't know how many people are more than willing to let that happen to their franchise, but I sure as hell wouldn't want that. Even if we were to finish at .500 for several seasons, we would still need to trade back into the Top 5 (maybe even 1st overall if a Payton Manning-type QB is there) to stand a chance to nab said QB. Do you know how much that would cost us? And even then, people are still going to bitch about how much of a gamble the move is and sport columnists will still write pieces like the one above.

We were fortunate to have Mangini in Cleveland with the 5th overall pick this year. Had it been other team, I can guarantee you, we would've been asked to hand over future first round picks.

We got a potential Franchise QB and people are still not happy. Go figure.

    I hate Jets fans sometimes.

You have said you have never seen him play & you are saying he is a bust already. At least Fireman Ed is trying to bring some facts to the table to back up his what he has to say.

I'm a little intrigued by the analogy that Sanchez is only good because he has had a strong supporting cast.

This clearly helps as it makes his role as a QB more straightforward asd there is talent to support him however if he sucked then the other talent around him would also be shown in a negative light.

The supporting cast should only magnify in the NFL as the wittling down from Pop Warner to HS to Colleget to the pros menas he is playing with " the best"

Granted that may throw some light on the wider strength of the Jets but doesn't hold water when sayin Sanchez is not good as he played with other good players and good teams before he got to the Jets

I think he's just bitter cus nobody laughed at his Rex Ryan eats Mark Sanchez thread

Seriously tho, there's obviously some inherent risk whenever you draft a QB. A lot of people thought Ryan Leaf was going to be a better QB than Peyton Manning....there's no reason to not be optimistic about our prospects of Sanchez as our QB. Our FO and CS sees a lot in the kid and they know a lot more about football than we do

Hey look everybody, it's Spiderman! I won't admit I am over the top with enthusiasm because I am not. I think he has the tools to do the job, but doing the job is another story. 'Considering' that he could bust is one thing. You are saying the you have some baseless 'feeling' that he is a bust. Not evidence, no argument, just a 'feeling'. Give me a break.

You're right. Poor predictions are made here all the time.

They cared so much that he went 6th.

With Matthews and Maualuga on the board, they traded down. Twice.

Everyone makes bad predictions. Everyone. You've had it out for Sanchez since well before the draft. I'm not suggesting you should change your mind about the guy, but he hasn't given us anything in his time with the team to be concerned with. Personally, I don't think he's a guarantee. No QB is. In fact, I've been rather vocal about wanting him to sit at least to start the season in order to overcome the lack of experience.

The argument that he'll fail because he didn't start as a sophomore over Booty is weak. Pete has always preferred experience and continuity at the QB position. Why do you think Pete was so upset about Mark leaving for the draft this year? It's not because Aaron Corp can't handle the QB position. The SC coaching staff very publicly guaranteed Booty's job when he returned from injury. This happened twice in Sanchez's career, and would have happened regardless of how he played against Oregon.

As far as WHO he was behind on the depth chart, let's not forget that Booty was a preseason Heisman frontrunner in 2007. He's not a good pro prospect, but that has little to do with how he was in college. Plenty of solid pro QBs (Tom Brady, Joe Montana, etc) played sparingly at first behind college QBs who turned out to be terrible pros.

WTF, now I read this, after I've already widdled a larger than life Sanchez statue out of driftwood. I should have read this article first.

The lovefest doesn't bother me. I say enjoy the hope while it lasts. This team rarely delivers, so ride the wave while you can before your dreams get pummeled to death. It would be great if this works out for us in some shape or form, but I have to admit that I'm cautiously optimistic at best. Yes, yes, I used the word optimistic. It must be something in the water.

The fact that he plays in the weak Pac 10 conference with a Nfl Ready College team against weak opponents is lost on some of us. Depending on the need for Qb of teams next year and the Qb's coming out in the draft he could have slipped to the second rd in 2010. He was smart to come out of school to get paid. Not to say he will be a bust but we would have had a better chance at Franchise Qb next year so Woody rolled the dice on a move that could make or break our franchise for the next 5 years!

Franchise QB's don't just grow on fuckin trees dude....if you have a chance to get somebody who you think is a franchise QB you go and get them. Woody, Tannenbaum and Rex see great potential in the kid and think he's gonna be a franchise QB...you don't pass guys like that up.

The first one wasnt really a terrible throw. USC was trailing and Sanchez had already driven down the field for a touchdown and was doing it again. There was only :20 on the clock and he had to make a play.. you win some, you lose some. Look at Stafford's highlight reel and be happy we drafted Sanchez.

what if a year from now that 2010 QB class turns into shit?

before this college football season, there were guys like Curtis Painter and Chase Daniel that were supposed to make this QB class just as strong.

The flip side is trading up to get one who is not a franchise qb. We went after him like he is an elite talent not a game manager so he had better deliver.

Cool, so let's just sign 35-40 year old cast offs every year and that'll solve our QB problems!! Awesome

Shit happens but as it stands next year is supposed to be the year of the Qb not this year. Sanchez came out early for a reason. Hopefully we will have no need for a Qb next year.
