please state the positions they both play respectively... then do math on your own... there is no time limit on reaching the logic of the equation

Why does every cocksukker that plays for the Jets have to complain? Screw him and his disgruntled crap. Kick him in his ass.

Why did you have to dredge up this dead topic?

Don't you have anything better to do with your time than digging up old, inactive topics?

...two and a half months without a new post. I would call that inactive.

    You missed the pun. Sigh.

Anyway, he's not disgruntled and you don't want to kick him in his ass?

TJ knew the deal was front loaded when he signed it. And when he ran for just one TD last year he did not offer to give any money back. Players never offer to give money back when they underperform a contract, they only want raises when they outperform one.

I don't claim to be a capoligist, but with the low base pay in this contract, shouldn't the cap hit from trading TJ be painless? And with Shonn "SG-1" Greene on the team TJ is just a backup in case of injury. Trade him, even if all the Jets get is a 7th round pick. But hopefully we can get one of these magic 4th round picks.

I honestly believe that OU guy we picked up off the street can get all the yards TJ can get.

I know this was dredged up and the OP should be hung but...as badgeronlsd stated - the issue still hasn't been settled.
Just pay the man what he wants (at least in terms of a new "contract")! He was better than everyone in our conference last season, Favre-influenced or not. Hopefully he can be Clemens or Sanchez-influenced as well.
This is the NFL, not a democracy! Squeeze what you can out of a happier player and as soon as he underperforms - release him. The kind of "guaranteed money" he'd merit DOESN'T count against the cap if he's released - it's Woody's $, not ours.
And if he actually continues turning in seasons like last year, it was worth the investment whatever amount he's demanding.
If he dogs it, then - like stated above, release him! The cap penalty is always better than the "agreed upon" amount. An NFL contract is like playing with house money. Ask TO, the Bills and the 'Boys about contracts. Everybody wins! Especially if the player can still perform at an above-average rating which would be hard to deny based on two seasons' worth of TJ's numbers, whether you're for renegotiating, or re-leasing.
So say the worst-case scenario happens - he's extended for too much and he underperforms. He's released, which eventually leads to...
as per usual, he gets scooped up by the Patriots, continuing a rivalry where the action off the field sadly betters the actual games.

This is the new reality in the NFL. There's no loyalty. There's no obligation for a team to keep a guy around the entire length of his contract either so why should there be an obligation for a guy to not ask for more money upfront knowing he won't ever see the backloaded part of his deal?

Jones is old in football years so he's thinking this is his last big money opportunity before he fades away. Its not the first time Jones became disgruntled with a team he was on as well so its in his resume to be upset about something or another. I wonder just how he's gonna react to Greene taking snaps away. Jones got upset with Cedric Benson in Chicago as well so its not beyond possibility that he'll make so much noise that the Jets will send him on his way. Hopefully for a DP this time instead of the usual GoodWill giveaways this team usually does..

Based on two seasons of TJ's stats show that he is mediocre back who is in the middle of the pack in NFL stats. Worst starter in the league in 07 best in the confrence in 08. He will be 31 before the season starts has 1 year left at a reasonable price and than will either have to be renegiotated at 32 or cut.

We moved up and sacrificed a lot of value to get his replacement now. It seems to make sense to squeeze the most out of him for the least money now or trade him for some value now. Over paying him for a 1 year deal when his carries are going to go down and his impact on the team will be less seems like a dumb move all the way around. He is worth keeping at his current numbers in a reduced role. He is not worth over paying for to take carries away from Washington. Greene is clearly the only move the pile back on the team and Leone is much more dangerous in the backfield than Jones in the none power running situations.

Yeah but in '07, behind one of the worst O-lines in Jets history - he still quetly put up 1,000.
Behind the improved QB/Oline situation - he flexed his potential.

And the fact that he got a ton of carries in 07 wasn't very good and the following year behind a good OL and a pass first O where we were in the bottom half of the league in attempts justifies giving him a new contract?

Jones is a solid back. Not great and at near the end, it would be nice to keep him but not for value that isn't there. He will have a smaller role this year and will be worth less to us this year not more.

I'm not really a fan of Edwards, but if Jones has any of that rumored value in a trade like that the Cleveland, you hammer that deal through. I wouldn't get rid of him just to get rid of him, but this is a business and you have to manage your assets wisely. Thomas Jones with no passing game to open up the box is a pretty impotent player.

I was being sarcastic about the posts that followed it being bumped. I mistakenly aimed it at you (OP) but my intention was for jetophile for the bump.
