Picking up T Jones was a steal! A productive back with a lot of upside. When the line was right, he was right and put up the numbers we expected. The Jets aren’t going to offer him a long term deal, so we have to cash him in so to speak before there are no takers and he's released with nothing gained. Mangini is reaching out for "His" players and will probably do this deal. If we Get Braylon and do not have to give up any more pick for 2010, then I say do it! The money side can always be worked out with a back loaded deal that will never be fulfilled anyway.
Excellent point. Edwards has proven he can dominate - we've even seen him give Revis trouble - and, as you said, dropped passes is correctable, especially when he's shown he can make big plays. It's not like the guy drops every pass thrown his way. The best part is, we'd be trading a 30-year-old RB for a potentially dominant WR who's about to enter his prime.
While I think you're right, as it appears we can't afford Braylon, I don't think this story would have any substance, that is, I don't think talks would be continuing if Tannenabaum didn't feel he has a way to give Edwards a contract and still re-sign our key players next year.
I'm not sure I wholly agree with this sentiment, particularly in light of the concerns WSW raised, but Tanny might feel there's some way to cover it all. I agree, otherwise the talk of pursuing Edwards is nonsensical. But it is possible he may, in light of WSW's points, be simply wrong.
Yeah, all I'm saying is, if Tanny is heavily pursuing this, he must know something or have some sort of plan to make sure the players we need will fit into the cap, including Braylon.
Agreed. And I didn't know you'd be back so soon, otherwise I would've thrown you a Welcome Home party.
There is nothing that indicates Tanny is pursuing it at all though. The whole rumor stems from some Cleveland paper speculating the trade could happen.
Personally, I find it amazing just how many receivers the Jets have been rumored to be interested in. I'm placing bets that ESPN soon will have an "insider" rumor that says the Jets have been trying to sign Al Toon. Apparently the guys at ESPN don't have solitaire on their computers, and have to make up stories when they're bored at work.
Is that really all the evidence there is for that? Wow. I guess I can put aside planning to get an Edwards jersey then, huh?
I think KOZ was the one that originally pointed it out, but yes. It's all in this thread. :shit: I think Don was the first one to mention we don't have the cap space too.
Well this isn't the first time there's been a lengthy thread based on a rumor and nothing more. The cap issues could be juggled, though. Unless you are referring to the need to sign key players next year? THAT could be a real problem, but there's moves available this year to cover Edwards under the cap. I also think it important to point out while the Edwards angle may be based on a rumor, the underlying need for an upgrade at wideout is also a large part of what drives this type of discussion. In other words there is a logic to it.
ARGH! Is anyone else annoyed with ESPN insdier?? Today they had changed the title for the insider three different times making it seem like their were new updates in a trade with NYJ, Eagles and browns. I mean wtf? Meanwhile it's the same f'ing article that was released yesterday. I feel that the jets are definately gonna make a trade for a WR even before the draft because of TJ. I think once they drafted Shon, and the card's drafted all of the RB's, it only makes sense to go after edwards.
Ah, I was under the impression that it was getting so much coverage (even from TGG front page) because the trade was heatedly in the works.
I do think nothing will be done on this until the Jets see if Burress can somehow wiggle out of jail and manage to stay in the NFL too..a tall order, agreed, but I think that is why nothing is happening with this at all right now.
