Seems like things got exciting right after I fell asleep. I ran into a friend early this morning while walking my dawg, and he made a pretty fair case for blowing off the day and driving down see the new stadium. Unfortunately, it's actually TWO blown days, with the overnight drive back. August, maybe.
Joe Maddon seems to have a pretty decent battle plan - play aggressive, force mistakes. Shutting down Boston hitters seems to work okay, also.
I'm pretty worked up over last night's game. I literally havent been able to watch ANY baseball this year including the sox. I don't get NESN or YES w/ the dish and usually the relevant Sox or Yanks game's get blacked out on ESPN. So basically all I have to go on is Hearsay on WFAN... For whatever reason...the game wasnt blacked out on ESPN last night...and the one game i get to actually watch, the Yanks had no emotion(frankly neither did the sox),completely went through the motions and let their rivals beat them up once again. What's more, Hughes had good stuff last night....and was just missing the corners...Sox also got acouple drop in base hits along the foul line. Very frustrating night indeed.

Cappy may I? Don, the Yankees have the second best THUYD% and their MJH is far better than it appears. Also, last year we had a PKILO of just .657 while this year its already above .786 and once Wang gets back, Im sure our overall WDEDED will sky rocket. What's my point? The numbers will even out! Just give it time. Just because we've lost 4 games to the Red Sox doesnt mean that had we'd won those 4 games, we'd have 4 more wins. Don, you do understand the difference between there being reasons for concern, and for writing off the season, right? Hughes pitched one great game and you thought that was evidence that the Yanks should move Joba back to the pen. Now he pitched a pretty lousy one (in no small part due to the miniscule strike zone he was getting)... I guess they should send him back down to the minors. Or is he a total bust now? Is that when you get your prescription refilled?
At the same time, I saw two of three strikes to Pedroia in the 8th that breezed through Cambridge on their way to the plate.
Yeah, the umpire was terrible both ways, but that was far from Hughes' biggest problem. I'd put it third, after poor location (he threw a TON of pitches right down the middle) and poor pitch selection (IMO he threw WAY too many fastballs, and they weren't fooling anyone). Some of that might be attributable to the rain though. He might be one of those guys that grips the ball tight and can't throw a breaking ball with a wet ball. Same thing happens to me.
I think part of the reason his location was poor is that he wasn't getting the calls on the corners in the slightest. What choice did he have? I mean, we're not talking about one or two bad calls. We're talking about a teensy little strike zone. He basically had to lay it over the plate if he wanted a call. Well, yeah... by that time, the ump wanted to get home. Bastard.
No, he was missing by a lot too. Molina would set up on the corner and it would end up down the heart of the plate. He wasn't getting sqeezed THAT much, and he was clearly missing his spots.
