Jo-Jo Reyes pitched an awesome game for the Braves and still didn't get the win. I had an 8 game hit streak riding on Albert Pujols, who went 0/3 with a walk. Oh well. Only three hits for St. Louis, and one came from Kyle Lohse, who also threw 6 shutout innings.
As it turns out, 15.7% of BTS users picked Pujols and had their streaks broken. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20090428_CHC@ARI/rss PHOENIX -- Only Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella could stop Carlos Zambrano. With Zambrano needing a triple for the cycle, Piniella decided to lift his ace after seven sharp innings and 111 pitches. Zambrano settled for a homer, double and single as the Chicago Cubs routed the Arizona Diamondbacks 11-3 on Tuesday night.
I was looking for someone to take for the HR streak game, and noticed that no one on Oakland had more than two. So I checked the stats, and they're last in the majors with 8 homers. That's three less than any other team. They're also last in SLG % with .314. That's way below anyone else. San Francisco is 29th with .369. The Bay Area can't hit. Oakland is 29th in BA, ahead of only Arizona. also, for BTS yesterday: 1. Albert Pujols (STL): 15.7%, 0-for-3 2. Ian Kinsler (TEX): 4.6%, 0-for-4 3. Jose Reyes (NYM): 4.5%, 0-for-5 4. Kevin Youkilis (BOS): 3.4%, 1-for-4 5. Ichiro Suzuki (SEA): 3.1%, 2-for-10 Ichiro played in a doubleheader and only got a hit in one of the games. Thus, anyone who took him also had their streak broken. Top 3 and 4 of top 5.
Max Scherzer has some nasty stuff. 6 Ks through 3.1 against Milwaukee. Longoria just hit a solo shot to make it 8-0 in Tampa Bay.
The Brewers have had a baserunner in each of the first five innings and have not scored. 1-0 Diamondbacks in the 6th. Garza was perfect through 6. Ellsbury led off the 7th with an infield single to break it up. Shutout still intact in the 8th.
4 run 7th for the Brewers. Fielder draws a bases loaded walk to give them a 2-1 lead (against the lefty brought in to face him) and then Mike Cameron ripped a ground rule double down the left field line to make it 4-1. Tampa Bay beat Boston 13-0. That Ellsbury infield single would be the only hit Boston would get.
http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/gamecenter/recap/MLB_20090430_OAK@TEX Ryan Sweeney robbed Kinsler of a three run homer and the A's held on to beat Texas, 4-2. Jack Cust had three walks.
ESPN streak for the cash has Marlins @ Cubs PK listed as one of the games for 5/1. Cubs are -270 ML favorites tomorrow. Am I missing something?
Antoni, I'm risking a 4 game streak on it. The streakmaster made a mistake. He almost never lists games worse than -135 or so. What's odd is the percentage of people on the Marlins.
The marlins have been hitting htis year especially late, and recently the cubs bullpen has been a bit of a mess, with harden who throws a lot of pitches early usually there is a decent chance the marlins get into the soft part of that bullpen. As to the line, lines on the cubs, red sox and yankees are always artificially inflated because they get the most action so the casino adds to their odds in an effort to get action on their opponent
Marlins up 3-1. Hanley Ramirez is injured, which was a big contributor to the line being so inflated. Amezaga is playing shortstop and he has a RBI single and a run scored.
Amezaga made a sweet play to rob Soriano of a single. Hanley doesn't make that play. 5-2 after 4. RBI single, then Zambrano pinch hit for Harden and flew out.
Theriot grand slam off Badenhop! Penn got injured after relieving Taylor. That resulted in Badenhop, and after almost hitting Soriano twice, he walked him.
Hanley Ramirez making his first appearance since being hit by a John Maine fastball on Monday. He's pinch-hitting in the 8th. 8-5 Cubs.
KC catcher John Buck went 3/3 with two triples and 5 RBI last night. That one game puts him second in the AL in triples, tied with only Josh Fields. In his first six years in the majors, he had only three triples. The 3/3 moved his average from .243 to .300.
