Some players that should be projected first round selections. A year is a long way off, but these are the positions the Jets might be targeting in Round 1. WR Arrelious Benn, WR, Illinois...Big Target, very productive. Dez Bryant, WR, Oklahoma State....Good KR..not as fast as Benn. Damian Williams,WR, USC...........excellent route runner Brandon LaFell, WR, LSU....almost declared this year...Nice Size. Eric Decker, WR, Minnesota...under the radar, productive WR. Marshawn Gilyard, WR, Cincy.....Best Bearcat wideout in a loooong time. All the above WR have good size (6' 2"+) and could all be 1st Rd picks. Good crop for the Jets to select from...Benn is my favorite. S Eric Berry, S, Tennessee.......my favorite player in this draft. Dynamic player!!! Taylor Mays, S, USC......we all know Taylor, almost declared. Myron Lewis, S, Vandy....opened my eyes last fall...very good player. Morgan Burnett, S, Georgia Tech....much better than James Butler. Strong Safety Class. Berry should be a top 5 pick...he's that good!!! CB Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky...I thought he would declare. Makes plays!!! Joe Haden, CB, Florida......has showed alot of potential. Tackling machine. Weak class of CBs at the top of the draft. DE Carlos Dunlap, DE, Florida...next year's top 3 pick...but better than Tyson Jackson. Greg Hardy, DE, Ole Miss.......almost declared...injuries held him back..needs to bulk up a little more to play 5 technique George Selvie, DE/OLB, S. Florida......terrific player, better football player than Gholston & Maybin. Not a one-trick pony!!! Everson Griffin, DE/OLB?, USC...kind of a tweener, may be better suited as 4-3 DE. TE Jermaine Gresham, TE, Chokelahoma ...IMO, better than Pettigrew. Great receiver, improving as a blocker, not there yet. Rob Gronkowski, TE, Arizona.....Good receiver and blocker(6'6" 265)...might be a good fit for the Jets late Rd 1. DT Terrence "Mount" Cody, DT, Bama....Men this big shouldn't be that fast...it's crazy. Kris Jenkin clone!!! Gerald McCoy, DT, Chokelahoma..possible top 5 pick, may be better in a 4-3. I didn't target QB, RB, O-Line.....obvious reasons. Also, didn't list MLBs as a Rd 1 target..I love Spikes..he's going to be a great NFL player. Feedback would be appreciated or add to my list.
I'm telling you Penn State's Jared Odrick will make an awesome 3-4 DE. He's got picture perfect size (6'5, 308), great speed (has lined up as a 4-3 DE at times) and great strength. He's got the stats to back it up: 9.5 TFLs and 5 sacks, and was a first team all Big Ten selection. Watching him and Maybin last year, most PSU fans would say Odrick was the better lineman. He is a Richard Seymour clone.
it's never too early...the problem is that the players' draft stocks could fall or climb so much over the course of one season.
I love Benn. If we miraculously came away with him next year, our offense would be the youngest most explosive O in the league. Sanchez, Greene, Leon, Cotch, Clowney, Keller, Benn....
You forgot the WR from USC... Damian Williams. I'm sure Sanchez will give the FO all the infos they need on him!
USC wide receiver Damian Williams attended quarterback Mark Sanchez's draft party Saturday night in Anaheim, but admitted it was initially difficult for him to accept Sanchez's decision to skip his senior season. "Mark's decision was kind of heavy," Williams said. "Of course it was heavy for me because I expected him to come back and he was one of my best friends. "At the time, when you lose your best friend, it's tough to remain." http://www.dailynews.com/sports/ci_12234998 ooooooooooooooooooohhhh... so sweet
good stuff as always sir.... how about OL prospects... the Jets need to find RTs and Guards in the next draft. Woody and Faneca will be hitting the veteran wall at the end of next year.
I disagree about Faneca... we "just" need to find a starting RT and that can be found in rd2/rd3... Looking at our roster now if we go WR and DE in day 1 and RT + depth in day 2 we are set Plus let's not forget FA where we always seem to pick up someone.
Mine as well. I thought he was the best WR in college football last year and I think he's a better pro prospect than any WR taken in this past draft.
No Doubt......He's a special talent. The Jets may have to move up to get Benn......might be a top 12 player.
Mick.....I'm never thrilled about using a 1st Rd pick for a RT. But, you're right, we need to address that position in the near future. Our OT depth is scary, Slauson could slide over in a pinch...if Brick got hurt...it could ruin 2009. Russell Okung, OT, Oklahoma St, if he declares could project nicely to RT and should be available in mid to late rd 1.
cool, and that is a sickening thought about Brick. it would be like Pace being hurt for the Rams... its ruins the line.. are there any 2nd-3rd round picks like Okung that can play both Tackle positions?
Here are 3 you may want to consider: The best run stopping tandum in college football next year: Geno Atkins DT 6-1 287 SR....Georgia Jeff Owens DT 6-3 306 SR....Georgia Very Solid at his position: Vince Vance LG 6-8 325 SR....Georgia I keep a close eye on these guys & these are 3 I see as studs next draft....opinion?
Kiper named Eric Berry as his favorite prospect for 2010 today on sportscenter. Called him the Next Ed Reed. Glowing praise for this safty. I hope the Jets are so low in round one that they have no shot at him.
Word is that Davis is bailing after the year no matter what. Should be a real quality guard, don't think he can handle playing against NFL passrishers at OT. But as for the WRs, my top three are Bryant, Benn, and Damian Williams. Love how well built both Benn and Bryant are, just physical specimens, ala Andre Johnson or Anquan Boldin. Big fan of Williams too, can't wait to see these guys compete next year. If they were all eligible/came out this year, I'd have only Williams behind only Crabtree and Bryant/Benn as the clear cut top wideout/top 5 lock. ** And something to remember, I think Myron Rolle will be back from his year of study by then if he wants to play in the NFL.
Harp....not a chance the Jets will have a shot at Berry(Are we trading up again? ). Berry will be a top 5 player, crazy money for a safety, but he's worth it.
I'm going to disagree and go with: DeMarcus Granger DT 6'3 310 lbs SR....Oklahoma Gerald McCoy DT 6'4 300 lbs JR....Oklahoma
