I gave it a tentative B+. I love the aggressiveness and I adore the guys we got (especially the first 2 picks), but we didn't build as much depth as I would have liked. Of course, this draft overall hinges on Sanchez and if he becomes the QB I think he can become, this draft will be far and away an A+. You can't undervalue the effectiveness of a franchise QB.
B...for Now... This draft is a current B...it can go a step up or a couple steps down...easily. This draft was loaded with mediocre talent at best...other than the handful of semi-known players at the top. Personally, with that much mediocrity, I'd rather have 3-4 players I am fairly certain can make the team and contribute than to have 10 picks and 7 of them take up space and contract money with almost no certainty of making the team. If Sanchez turns out to be even remotely good this draft was an A. How often do you get to draft your franchise QB. Even if he as E. Manning success that's one more SB we have that we didn't before...anything better than that is gravy. If Sanchez fails this draft drops to a D quickly considering the price of the 3 players and the 2nd round pick we gave up...not to mention the kind of coin it's going to take to sign Sanchez. On a positive note I read somewhere Sanchez stating that a holdout is most unlikely. That's a plus considering he needs to get his nose in the playbook right away...I don't see Clemens beating him out. The RB Greene is a monster. I watched that video someone posted on him and I'd wager that half the runs I saw him make, it required no less than half the defense to bring him down. It was impressive. But, the NFL is littered with backs who banged in College but found out they couldn't run over everyone in the NFL. Time will tell...as long as he pans the draft remains a B. (RB's can easily be gotten lower or in FA though). The rest of the draft, what little there was, is inconsequential and for depth period. So, in summation, this draft grade really hinges on two players...time will tell...less so for Greene...but for Sanchez, let's see how he handles things as a rook. Peace! The Mezz
Went with a C+ because we no longer have a starting RDE. People that hate on Coleman will be missing him. With Thomas and Washington we didn't need a RB, especially not one we had to trade up for. Grabbed a very nice looking lineman in the 6th. I would have voted A- when they grabbed Sanchez. I follow USC, and he'll be the best QB to come out of USC in years. Better than Palmer, Leinart, Booty, etc.
This draft is a big gamble on one player and impossible to grade. If Sanchez booms its a good grade and if he busts its a terrible grade. Unless the RB turns out to be the next Earl Cambell which would be really sweet.
Agreed with the USC comparison. Disagree with the RB argument. This guy is going to compliment Washington, very well. He would've been gone before the Jets picked in the 3rd. Jones is old, going to be gone soon, and it would be good to get that chemistry going between the two rookies, right from the start. Green is going to be a beast, you can just see it when you watch his games, he would've went so much higher in a lot of other drafts. This draft was just loaded with RB's though, and we got him at a bargain price. We clearly didn't covet many players in this draft, and it was obviously very easy for them to trade out of this weak draft. It was smart business. It will show in the long run.
C-, I have a really bad feeling about this draft. But that's probably just from being a Jets fan. I just think we could have got the same players for a less and kept some picks. Also why couldn't we have got rid of Ainge instead of Ratliff? Of course the only real way to grade a draft is 3/4 years in the future and I'm not much of a Psychic.
I hate to be one of those assholes who says they know what's going to happen in the future, but I'd put money on Greene being our starter at RB within the next 3 years. I also believe that he's going to make some major contributions next season.
id give them a c+ im not a fan of the sanchez move but it is what it is and ill live with it i love the shon greene pick as he is gonna be a good player the problem tho is the jets didnt address a single need in this entire draft we needed a TE, WR, and some Defensive Line depth and we got none of this
We also needed a franchise QB, a RB to replace Jones (who's been whining and is on the wrong side of 30), and OL depth. We got all 3 of those. We had enough needs that we weren't going to fill them all in one draft without a severe drop off in quality.
For now i will give it a solid B with a possible chance of turning into an A plus in a season or 2...
D. Sanchez is an overhyped QB that played in the Pac-10. Drafted waaaaaay too high. Greene. I guess he could be good, but with Jones and Washington it wasn't a high area of need Lol anybody giving a draft an A or a B, with only 3 players needs to take the green tinted goggles off
Based on your post, it is obvious that your football IQ is off the charts. Coleman goes from a waste of a roster space to untradeable all within 2 weeks? And our 3rd string QB showed you everything when he threw 2 long passes against a 4th string pass rush and a couple of 3rd string cornerbacks? Are you sure you aren't really Bill Parcells masking yourself as ace o spades?
