Or would you throw Sanchez into the fire right away?

In Baltimore they threw Flacco in and had success. Is Sanchez capable of duplicating?

Funny thing is, I think Clemens will win the TC battle Vs Sanchez. IMHO of course. I say this because he has been in the system. Rex might have other plans tho and just give him the job.

It's possible Clemens' days are numbered in NY. (NJ)

    Thoughts?

I'd hope Clemens plays while Sanchez learns.

Kellen IS our veteran QB. Whether as backup or starter, he will be a Jet next year, and quite possibly beyond considering his RFA status following 2009.

I sure as hell hope Kellen starts this season. I don't want to ruin Sanchez by tossing him in too early.

    Same here

At latest, Sanchez will start in 2010. This is Clemens's last year to potentially be a starter, after this year he'll be at best a backup with the team. Sanchez will get a lot of money and cayou can only keep that much money on the bench for so long.

I'm confident Sanchez will start Week 1- the league saw the success of rookie QBs last year and this league is full of copycats.

The Jets did not draft Mark Sanchez to see Kellen Clemens as their starting QB this year. This is how I see things shake out...

    1. The Jets acquire a veteran QB to back up Sanchez. (Is Chris Simms available?)
    2. Kellen Clemens asks to be traded.
    3. The Jets release Clemens.

I am actually for Clemens starting this year. I see no real problem with that. He's been groomed long enough.

sanchez is starting. we have the o-line and running game to allow him to be a game manager until he becomes comfortable. worked out for rex's team last year.

Sanchez needs the Carson Palmer treatment! Make sure his ass is carrying a clipboard for the first 16 games, I dont even want him playing if Clemens gets hurt. This is a major stipulation in my opinion. He came out without much experience, so he needs to sit through a million practices at the NFL level before he is ready to become a starter in the NFL.

Agree completely-- I would absolutely sit him this year, start KC. If KC sucks, we're drafting high next year and he resigns for cheap as a backup if we still want him. If KC does well, he's got value as a backup, competing for the starting job, or as trade bait. Some good fortune is involved, but SD did this expertly with Brees and Phillip Rivers. Rivers didn't come right in and start, Brees played well, and they got great trade value for Brees. With only 16 college starts, no need to play him right away.

I Like getting Sanchez despite losing Elam which stings but well get over it. We do need to bring in a vet but who's really out there ? Leftwich signed and so did Garcia. Wheres Vinny at ?

Good question. Who is actually left out there that would serve as a decent backup vet?

I don't want to see Sanchez become the next Joey Harrington. Sit his ass for the first year. Since Clemens is a RFA in '10, If Sanchez is ready, why not do a sign-n-trade with someone looking for an experienced fill-in QB.

    Exactly.
Clemens should be a good keeper for us as a back up. I see him playing this year and Sanchez in the opener of the new stadium next season.

I am guessing that with TB drafting Freeman. Leftwich or Griese could get cut. From what I have read Leftwich got no signing bonus, so TB wouldn't have to eat anything to drop him. Most likely, I'd think it's Griese.

I'd be surprised if this happens. I think it would take a flawless pre-season for Kellen to start the season for the Jets as the starter. I think his only chance of staying with the Jets is if the Jets cannot find a vet to come in and back Sanchez up. Otherwise, IMO, Clemens will be released.
