Exactly...dead fucking on. Mark Sanchez has been in a pro-style system at USC for 4 years. Let him learn the Jets' terminology and the speed of the game and he'll be mother fucking legit. We can't throw him into the fire...
it's win-win situation... Sanchez will be able to sit for at least half a year... Clemens knows the system and if for any reasons he succedds we either go Casell Style (franchise and trade) otherwise (if he is Tom brady 2.0) he becomes the franchise QB and we trade Sanchez for a top selection in next year draft(which is loaded). Good pick ps plus we got rid of a big contract in coleman...
I am too. And I wonder if any of his detractors ever thought that maybe the Jets did not want to part with Clemens? Or that maybe the Browns were looking for a career backup ala Ratty. They will now dump Brady Quinn and have a decent backup in Ratty.
Trading Sanchez for a top pick next year isn't going to happen unless the year is uncapped. No way we could afford to take Sanchez's pro-rated bonus hit on our cap. It probably would be in the 30 million range at one go. Clemens on the other hand would be eminently tradeable given that his contract is expiring shortly. This is the Drew Brees - Philip Rivers scenario all over again.
KC only has one year on his contract, he won't resign when Sanchez has turned into Woody's son. So either we start Sanchez this year or go into the next season with an inexperienced QB.
Perhaps what the OP does not realize is that they already have two QBs. Drafted Quinn and signed Andersen to a big deal. They don't need more QBs unless they trade one away.
You think Mangini raped us in that trade? I think we made out like bandits, we moved up 12 spots and still got to keep next year's #1... A huge move up like that almost always involves next year's #1.
Agree, start Sanchez from day one and he will produce as good as Matt Ryan or Joe Flacco. Don't sit the kid behind a shitty QB.
Ratliff has potential but he's still a long way away from playing, Mangini knows this and he has 2 starting caliber QBs already so he can buy time while Ratliff develops. The only way this trade can be a bad one is if Ratliff does develop and Sanchez does not.
I seriously doubt the Browns are waiting for Ratliff to develop. He's more of a "holy crap, Andersen and Quinn BOTH got injured, what the hell are we going to do now" back up guy.
I dIdn't think they are waiting for him but obviously they don't love the QBs they have now and this gives them a guy w/ potential that they can develop. That is what you want from your 3rd string QB.
