Are you the same guy that has been saying that Woody is 0 and 8 in bringing a superbowl to NY? This thought process is just retarded.
That might be true. I, for one, am not ready to give up on KC. His playing time was behind the worst OL in my living memory.
Actually no, I'm not. And my thought process on this is much clearer than yours because I've actually done the research on what happens to teams that consistently trade up in the draft. They wind up like the Redskins and the Jets in the best case: a mediocre team that makes a splash now and then but is incapable of going all the way.
Actually, let me elaborate on this a bit. I think KC has the game manager mentality that the run first offense needs. I think our QB might be in house already. hmy:
We're talking the third mini-camp and the second coach who apparently came away unimpressed with Clemens. I liked his moxie in 2007 and I'd have left him in after the Raven's game to see what we really had. That didn't happen and I think Clemen's career with the Jets probably was compromised heavily at that point. The FO clearly doesn't think Clemens is solid because if they did you wouldn't be hearing all this "we have 3 guys we're satisfied with" stuff. You'd be hearing "Clemens is our QB."
It's not a question of player. It's a question of results. You can move up for stars all you want and if the team isn't winning as a result you haven't done anything but play Madden football in the process. See the Redskins as the clear case where this is true. See the Jets as the subcase.
Well, I'm not saying that constantly trading up is a good thing. My issue is with your statement about Revis and our record. It makes no sense b/c you are assuming that everything thing else stays exactly the same... it doesn't. Teams change, rosters change.... especially in today's NFL.
Why do people bust his balls so bad? Over the last 8 years we haven't exactly had a steller coaching staff...
That's not the point. Looking back at the 07 draft, we have 3 players from that year on the roster right now. That's a draft from just 2 years ago. Revis is a great player, but moving up for him and Harris is costing us in terms of depth. Now they're trying to do it again this year. Look at the depth along our O-line, it's really depressing. We have aging players on both lines and none of their replacements are currently on the roster. OK, so we'll draft them. Oh wait we can't because we keeping trading away our picks. It will catch up soon enough.
If Sanchez goes before #4 please tell me we won't trade up for Freeman... actually I want no part in Freeman :S....
As I said there are three or four guys that I wouldn't mind trading up for but I think that it would be best if we trade down this year (unless a great player falls to us). There are several players that will be available later in round one or even in the two following rounds that could help us fill some holes. Also, playes like Harvin may fall much further than they should. It would be great if we were in a position to take advantage of this. My hope is that we don't reach for a player at a position on need (QB, DE, etc.) when a much better player at another position (OT, RB, DB, LB, etc.) is available. I wuld much rather have competition and depth than draft a bust because he fills a "need". I am off to Dave and Busters in NYC. Hopefully we will have very good news shortly.
They have drafted OL in the later rounds for depth. They haven't worked out but you also have free agency. The draft isn't the only way to get depth on your roster
Yes, and rosters get less deep and less talented across the board when you trade up consistently. We paid huge prices for the D-Rob trade because the second pick in the 1st round would have been a prime slot to pick up an offensive lineman. The 4th round pick was a great sniping opportunity to pick up a lineman also. Instead we got D-Rob and out offensive line fell apart just TWO years after the trade up. This in turn caused us to be put in a must-take situation with D'Brickashaw Ferguson in the 2006 draft, cutting our ability to take BPA on the 4 pick. We paid a real price for the Revis trade up also, although it's not clear yet what the cost really was. What is clear is that having Revis at CB last year did not stop the Jets from having the 29th ranked pass defense last year and so it's hard to see him as a must-have that required the Jets to trade two first day picks to get. Would we really have been worse off trading back a bit and taking Joe Staley or Ben Grubb in the first round that year, grabbing another good prospect in the second and spending the FA money that we spent on Faneca to get a quality CB in free agency?
