I really can't believe this...We're 15 games in. At 30 I'll start jumping to conclusions about the rest of the season, but it's hard to show restraint.
You know how they say if you screw up drafting quarterback in the 1st round at the top of your draft it can fuck your team for years to come? I really think the Mets destroyed themselves more then anybody realized it at the time when they traded Kazmir.
The fact they traded Kazmir doesn't bother me as much as that the front office fooled itself and they tried to fool Mets fans by thinking the Mets were still in the playoff race that year. I was incensed by the Benson and Zambrano deals that final week of July 2004. Kazmir is an overrated pitcher. He doesn't pitch far enough into games. If he could lose some of the Ks and pitch later into games he'd be a better pitcher.
Uh, in '06, two years after the trade, we were extremely close to making and potentially winning the World Series. Our current troubles have nothing to do with the Kazmir trade, because if Minaya hadn't screwed up in the past two offseasons, we'd be fine. So I don't see how that's at all the case. By the way, before we all say we're screwed, it's 15 games out of an 162 game season. That's not even a tenth of the season.
Well at least Livan throws strikes, granted they are meatballs but they are strikes. Something Maine and Perez cannot or will not do.
We probably could have won the World Series in '06 if we were sending Kazmir out there instead of Trachsel, but that's probably an oversimplistic look at things.
Jamie Moyer would have been nice. I brought up his name several times in 2006 before he got traded to Philadelphia. I wanted the Mets to trade for him in July of '06. They didn't try. Or maybe they did try, but failed. Seeing him win a World Series game with a Mets rival two seasons later was not fun.
Well if you play that game, our biggest mistake was not trading Lastings Milledge, Aaron Heilman and nameicantspell Petit for Manny Ramirez in '05...You can go on and on.
