You never know who's going to be there, so it's nice to see the front office do their due diligence. The main office put out a shitload of smokescreens last year along similar lines. Their goal was Chris Long last year. So they assured the Falcons and Chiefs that they really wanted Darren McFadden, so they needed to get ahead of Oakland. And they assured the Rams that they needed to get ahead of the Falcons in order to secure Matt Ryan. No one took the bait, but the plan is in place if a player drops. I don't mind going to 8 for Crabtree or Curry if they drop that far. In my opinion, going up that far to get a guaranteed star (IMO) is one thing; going up that far to get a young quarterback is dangerous. You're giving up all the picks that a young QB needs for a supporting cast, thereby lessening his chance at success.
We have a bunch of players that have a few solid years left in the tank at most. We shouldn't be trading all of our picks away for one player. We would have been better off trading for Cutler because at least he's proven
we couldn't trade for Cutler... its been documented that Denver wasn't going to talk to us and trade him in the conference.
Thanks I did not know that. I think with a new coach, we should allow him all the picks we have to get his players into the system. I don't think it would be wise to trade 3 picks away for a player in his first year that isn't even guaranteed to be there at #8.
If they make this move now, they have lost their fucking minds. Wait till draft day and we know for sure the guy we want is there. I do believe Tanny wants this guy, I am sure he well sell some tickets next year. and get us allot of face tiem on ESPN. But is it really worth it?
how do you know he's going to be a franchise qb? Thats a pretty costly gamble. Alex Smith was suppose to be a franchise QB too, along with 100 other examples. That is way to many picks to give up to take a guy that started 11 games at USC. No thanks, i'll keep the picks or trade down, and take my chances on ratty or clemens.
alot of young quarterbacks get ruined by going through a bunch of coching changes and learning new systems. Im nervous that if we do get sanchez he would come in as a rookie learn schottys system then all of a sudden the next year have to learn a new one because schottenheimer will probally be getting a head coach job next year. this might slow down his developement process rather than getting in a system where he can learn as a rookie and stay in it for the next few years kind of like peyton manning.
Why not? We're going to "burn" both of those picks on unproven players anyway - the front office might as well get a player that they're high on...
We've got 3 unproven QBs already, I'd rather fill in our other needs, and we need that 2nd round pick. If we trade up and he's a bust, our season is screwed. Pettigrew or Moreno in at 17, WR in round 2.
I'm way behind on the news today but here's my two cents. I think it's a big mistake to make this trade today. If on draft day sanchez falls to 8 then traing the 1st 2nd and next years 3rd to make the move. I say we wait.
Who says Sanchez is going to play right away? Right now, Rex Ryan wants to win with a strong defense and a ball control offense -- Clemens/Ratliff can hold the fort for a season while Mark Sanchez sits and learns. All of you guys pissing about Sanchez having to play right away if we take him this high couldn't be more wrong - Philip Rivers and Carson Palmer were brought into similar situations. You can't throw this kid into the fire...
Exactly - this team can't make this move unless Mark Sanchez is there. If they make this move before the draft and Sanchez is gone before the Jets pick, Tannenbaum would be booed out of his job.
In this league it's about winning now. And if Clemens or Ratliff ends up being the real deal next year, trading up for Sanchez will be a complete waste. Lets face fact that Clemens or Ratliff will start in 09, and draft guys to help them out!
You honestly think Brett fucking Ratliff is a better option than Mark Sanchez? ...some fans kill me. Kellen Clemens obviously has nothing - if he did, the front office wouldn't be after a new quarterback every week.
You're exactly right.....end of story. You step up the parameters of the trade with Jax the day before and tell them we will call you if our player is available at #8.
Win now is a farce. you win when you win. spending resources trying to win now all the time cements a team in mediocrity.... oh look!
I dont think thats what he is saying. I think he is saying what you yourself said, even if we pick Sanchez HE WILL NOT BE PLAYING in 09. so he is saying rather than mortgaging an entire draft to get a play who will not help us this year, we should bring in guys who are going to help those we already have in place. And should the oppurtunity to select a top QB presents itself, then take him (that said I really hate the idea of Freeman, but trading our entire draft for sanchez worries me far more). Thats what i believe he means.
