I don't follow baseball much at all, other than reading the paper in the morning and later in the day when commuting home.

That being said, I really don't know players of other teams all that well, outside of the "big-name" guys. The following happened about 45 min ago.

My office is across the street from Le Meridien Hotel, midtown Manhattan. There's an atrium inside. Nice place to go relax for a few minutes during lunchtime, nothing more, nothing less.

There I am sitting with my Jamba Juice (never had one before) and 3 guys sit down on the bench next to me. They start bullshitting with each other (one of them has surfer-type blond hair) the other 2 guys look like regular kids next door. One guy leans over and asks if I know where they can find an ATM. I let them know that TD Bank is on a nearby corner, and the same guy starts to remark about the weather, how crappy the weather was last night and how the game had better go on as planned tonight.

I ask the guy what game he's speaking about, he remarks "Yanks v. A's, of course." We get on the subject of seating and I ask where his seats are- his remark to me, "We're fucking players, we're the ones people watch." I'm speechless, don't know what the hell to say- at first.

Quickly, I answer, "Well, it's too bad that you guys didn't pick up a real sport like football during your earlier years, but I guess that one of the benefits of your position is that you can sit in an open hotel lobby/atrium without people giving a shit as to who you are."

I received blank stares in return, gave them a "good-day" nod and went back to work.

Hotel lobbies are a great place to hang out and meet interesting men. I read about that somewhere.

Dude, if I was going to make up a story and my clever retort don't you think that it would have been in the context of me and 3 playboy models at some swank jazz club, etc, etc.

These guys were just complete dicks and full of themselves.

Almost wish that I had the old "Stuttering John" from the Howard Stern show next to me- "Who are you and what have you done that's made you famous?"

Was Travis Buck one of them? He seems to be a douchebag and has the sufer type hair as you alluded to in the first post.

So then the real question is, why the hell does Travis Buck think anyone is coming to see him?

I think that MLB must have negotiated some fantastic rate with the hotel for the benefit of visiting teams.

The Angels are apparently in town today. Big tour bus just pulled in.

I suppose that for any of you who are autograph or picture whores this is the place to be.

The Hotel outside of Grand Central? Visiting players have been staying there for as long as I know.

No, Le Parker Meridien, 56th between 6th and 7th....

It's obvious when they're there- the douchebags looking for autographs line up many hours beforehand.
