If we do trade up we should be looking for an elite receiver (Crabtree or Maclin) not another young untested qb.
Stafford Sanchez Jason Smith Monroe Curry Michael Crabtree BJ Raji Jeremy Maclin/Andre Smith/Michael Oher We'd be guaranteed one of those guys at 8.
apparently they think there is a drop off in talent below the top 10 spots or so..... one golden rule - you never ever move up with only one player in mind - you need to have at least 3 scenarios that could benefit your team almost immediately depending on how the board plays out. if its the QB so be it, a LB so be it, a WR so be it. i do not mind the jets sacrificing picks - as long as there is blue chip talent on the other side. this team has enough talent from prior drafts AND free agency to sacrifice quantity for quality. jil
I think thats just the Jags posturing. They want to move down from 8 real bad, if Sanchez is there at 8 and the jets come calling with the original package, they take it.
You don't make this risky move ahead of time unless you've got a backup plan. Who else would we want to take besides Sanchez if he's gone at #8? That's the question Tannenbaum has to ask himself before he makes this deal ahead of draft day. Otherwise you're standing there at #8 holding your shwantz in your hand and looking like a complete imbecile.
This has Bradway written all over it and odds are it wouldnt be for just one guy but rather 2-3 who they believe are the "best fits" for the team. Bradway draft teams were notorious for overanalyzing draft boards and moving up or down as a result. They did this when they traded up for D rob and when they traded too far down and took a kicker (Nugent). I'm not saying this move wouldnt work out..i'm just saying this is def. Bradway style.
Man. If the Jets were to do this it would show that they have no clue. With all the depth needs, its too much of an asking price. With that said, I don't see Tanny doing this deal. He might trade up, but not for that exorbinant(sp?) price.
If the Jets traded a first, second & a third to trade up to eight to take Tyson Jackson I would kick my tv out the window.
You know what? I'd say our chances are damn good that either Sanchez or Crabtree would be there. From KFFL today: So, if the Seahawks take Sanchez, Crabtree is there at 8, as all reports are that Al wants Maclin.
The only players I would want to trade up for like that (in my admittedly limited knowledge of this draft) is Sanchez or Raji. But who knows? A lot of people shit their pants when we traded up for Revis.
They were talking about 1st Day quarterback picks on WFAN the other day and how bad the percentages are. Off the top of my head and if memory serves, they were saying that there have been something like 43 QBs taken over the years in the 1st Round, and by all reasonable standards of judgement, only 13 of them ever played NFL caliber football. In other words, about 30% of them were servicable or reasonably good QBs and the rest were basically busts. So now, when you stack up those statistics and weigh them against taking a QB at #8 and giving away vast resources to do it, or taking one at 17 (or even no QB at all), you can see the dilemma. It is truly a crap shoot, and a very expensive one at that. Then you look at a Tom Brady-like draft scenario and you've got to ask yourself, "This better be one hell of a QB in order for me to make this cockamamie move."
Why the fuck would the Jets trade up into the top ten for a guy that might not even be there? This makes no sense...
That was exactly the move I wanted that year, and I thought we got him lower than we should have been able to. This year? I honestly have no idea how to feel about this. Unfortunately, our QB situation is absent sufficient information. Sanchez, Raji, or Crabtree would be there at #8, but are they all worth that value? Are any of them?
that does sound like the unsettling truth in this situation. this dope screaming to go get "this kid" all over again. Thankfully tanny can overrule him.
