All of us draftniks are always doing plenty of talking about prospects and where they'll be picked and who teams will or will not draft.. This thread relates to prospects. For all you draftniks out there, make some predictions and go on record here so we can see how we fair on draft day and then again in a few years. This is the format I chose to make some predictions. Choose the same if you'd like. But I hope EVERY TGG DRAFTNIK has the balls to put their predictions on the line and straight on record. Of course, even the real "experts" are always wrong, so it's okay to miss on predictions. But have fun with this! Guys who will go higher than expected - Tony Fiametta | FB/RB | Syracuse | 4th Round - Brian Robiskie | WR | Ohio St | Between picks 17-29 - TJ Lang | OL | Eastern Michigan | 2nd Round - Connor Barwin | DE | Cincinnati | Between picks 20-28 - Bradley Fletcher | DB | Iowa | Bottom 2nd ? Let's see your predictions!!
I think Mike Crabtree will bust... Andre Smith shouldn't fall out of the first. Sean Smith will do better in the NFL than Patrick Chung, who played a bullshit position (spur/bandit) at the college level.
Boldest Prediction for the 2009 NFL Draft: Mark Sanchez's name will be up in lights 3 years from now. Biggest Star of the 09' class: Aaron Curry, LB, Wake Forest Biggest Bust of the 09' class: Michael Crabtree, WR, Texas Tech Biggest Sleeper of the 09' class: Dorell Scott, DT, Clemson
Maclin falls further than expected. Coming from a spread offense and not playing a full college career, it will take Maclin a couple years to hit his stride in the NFL. The WR class is also deep, so teams will need to consider that in taking him top 10. The key is Cleveland. If they go BJ Raji, Oak grabs Crabtree, Jax now has Holt, Maclin could even be around at #17. I also think Donald Brown may not light the league on fire in year 1, but proves to be the best long term RB in the draft. Moreno of course will give him a run for his money. I look for Beanie Wells to be as uninsprining as Lendale White though. I didn't like Leinart coming out in 06, and i'm getting a similar Southern Cal vibe from Sanchez.. Product of a good team, and seems to be embracing the glamour a little too readily. just my predictions.
Fuck, you stole mine. I also think that Cushing will never be an impact player. Matthews is overrated in the mid 1st round. Moreno might go earlier than 20 Wells falls out of the top 15. I have no idea what to make out of Robert Ayers. Stafford will be a journeyman QB. Max Unger will be a great OL. Somebody takes a big fall. Andre Smith, or Crabtree or someone else. I don't think Peria Jerry becomes a special player. I think that 5 players from this draft will be impact players in their rookie season. Not more than 5. Ebben Britton will be a terrible player. Robiskie will play and be effective right away if he goes to a team with no QB controversy. Oakland will make a bad pick. +1
Busts: Heyward-Bey Maybin Wells V Davis Orakpo Studs: Crabtree Sanchez Raji Moreno Curry Alphonso Smith Alex Mack
I think Sanchez will be revealed to have a sub-Pennington arm and be a bust. Freeman will be an average player at best, for some people that will be a big disapointment, might qualify as a bust. I think all three of the big USC LBers will be disapointments as they will merely be good players and not the stars people were expecting them to be. The USC defense was so good across the board that opponents didn't try to avoid or take out one single player, that makes their players look better than they would have on a different team where they might be getting double teamed on every play. Zach Follet and Scott McKillop will be as good as Cushing and Matthews, their just not getting the same amount of publicity. I'm predicting Vontae Davis will be a bust for no other reason than he sounds so dumb in interviews. Here's another prediction, Fatcessa is saying he likes Stafford because Richt is a good recruiter but a poor coach and his players have a lot of room to grow due to having been poorly coached. If Stafford surprises everyone and is the next rookie QB sensation it will be the start of the end for Richt's reputation. Also, any team that passes on Aaron Curry will regret it. Monster talent.
1. Rhet Bomar will be the 2nd best QB in this years class. (Sanchez, Bomar, Stafford) 2. Freeman will make Rex Grossman look like Joe Montana. 3. Lions will regret not taking Smith #1.
