I liked the info as well. Good job Coach K. I'm not too sure how often NFL teams rummage thru the interwebz, let alone teams message boards for sure-fire information on a team's plans for the Draft. But I guess what I'm trying to say is, if this thread had been created by TampaBayJetsFan or JETFAN1290 with somewhat of a similar story, and an NFL team took this information to their Draft War room as "inside" knowledge on how the Jets will go about this Draft, then they're fucking stupid.
Just going to reiterate, if I'm Bill Parcells or Bill Belichik and I get wind that the Jets are doing something like this and actually giving out information on the call I'm going to spend the $100k a year it takes to buy suites through a front man and get in on that call. So either the conference call was a circle-jerk to keep the big spenders happy and no real info was produced out of it or the Jets are deliberating in public which is almost certainly a bad move. It's possible they were floating stuff they wanted to hit the public conciousness just before the draft as misinformation, however that's not going to make the guys on the call all that happy if it comes out.
This is the key, right here. Do you really think Mr T would say anything disparaging about Clemens to a bunch of fans, knowing it would find it's way to other fans, the media, message boards, etc? Sounds to me like it was a show for the high roller fans--get Mr T on and have a generic, vanilla Q&A but not really say anything the die hard fans don't know. Maybe they are high on Clemens and/or Ratliff, but we'll find out over the next few months. They stood pat last off-season until Brett Favre came out of nowhere, so you never know what happens.
hmmmmm, this is an interesting concept. Even though they bought the big seats, are they as knowledgeable and die hard as we are... if not, tell them what we know and they'll think they have inside information. If any of us was in on that call, we'd try to pry as much info out of them as possible, and even lobby for the guy we think is going to help this team the most.
You mean after the big spenders have gone back to their friends and shot their mouth off about what the Jet's plans are? And then look like fools when the Jets make a "value" pick? Again I see nothing good that can come out of this for the Jets. If they are using the device to sell tickets, which is possible, then they need to follw up on what they said. If not then it's just confusing as hell but definitely not going to sell tickets.
To paraphrase Tannenbaum's comments, (1) The Jets will be drafting a WR. (2) They have added depth on the defensive side of the ball through FA and will be using different schemes to keep Jenkins fresh. (3) He expects Thomas Jones in mandatory training camp, and the Jets will be drafting a RB. (4) He has confidence in Clemens. Seems pretty benign to me.
Maybe they've done this to create an avenue to set up a smokescreen and send out misleading information to other teams. Perhaps they've decided anyone dumb enough to buy a PSL in this economy will certainly have some time to get on a conference call and hastily leak the misinformation out to their friends, in turn getting it out in public. Genius. The beauty is in the simplicity, Dude.
What did they say that they wouldn't (and haven't) said in press conference on one of the local radio stations? The indignation factor is a bit high for a simple move to keep the big money fans happy. They know the info would make its way to the fan boards, Bellicheat doesn't have to buy a box to find out what was said, all he had to do was have an assistant read the NYJ chat rooms. This is a marketing gimmick, nothing more. No need to get hot under the collar
I don't see them giving enough information out in this situation to justify calling it 'The plans of the Jets'. Jetaho is right. It's like surface information that most people can see. The Jets let Coles go, they will obviously be addressing the hole at some point of the draft. Jenkins got tired and the Jets defense stopped being effective, so they are going to make the defense less dependent on him. The Jets 'like what they have on their roster' at QB - they've been saying this since the offseason began, even as they made it plain they would trade for Cutler. Great. A bunch of vague evaluations, all of which are covered by the 'value pick' statement. I think you're overreacting on this one.
