Philadelphia has four 5th round picks and there's a few players in the 4th I could see them targeting. Our 4th has a trade value of 72 points and Philly's first and their 5th round picks add up to 71.8. 1) Brandon Pettigrew, TE, Oklahoma St. Unless Maclin falls here I don't want to go receiver. Pettigrew would give Clemens or Ratliff a very reliable underneath option while helping pave the way for our "all-weather" offense. I know the criticisms of taking a TE in the first two years in a row but they're two completely different players and actually compliment each other very well. Having two out of the three of Keller, Pettigrew and Tony Richardson on the field at any time and sometimes all 3 we'd be able to give alot of different looks. Schottenheimer's offense is predicated on being able to run or throw out of multiple formations and I think Pettigrew would fit in nicely. 2) Lesean McCoy, RB, Pitt. Once considered a first rounder, his stock is has decreased but through no real fault of his own. Guys like Donald Brown have surpassed him and McCoy looks like he's going to fall to the bottom of the 2nd round. He's a very complete back that has some issues such as a tendency to make cutbacks that won't work in the NFL but as a 3rd option for the time being, Shady could develop into an every down back. 3) Sammie Lee Hill, DT, Stillman. Small school sleeper who's on alot of poster's big board. He's got great size and versatility to move all over on the defensive line. Having him and Jenkins on the field at the same time with both able to switch between nose tackle and defensive end should keep offenses guessing, a Rex Ryan staple. 5) Brian Hoyer, QB, Michigan St. I really like Hoyer and think he would've been a more highly touted prospect if he played in a system that featured him more. With Javon Ringer he didnt have much of a chance to throw but he has good size, an above average arm and great intangibles. With Ainge MIA it might be worth our while to draft a developmental QB on day 2. 5) Kevin Ogletree, WR, Virginia. After reading up on Ogletree I found alot of similarites to Cotchery. Will never be a start but has the ability to develop into a contributor. Was still recovering from an ACL injury during the 2008 season he has alot of sleeper potential. 6) Joel Bell, OT, Furman. Another small school prospect, Bell has alot of potential. Great size at nearly 6'7, 315, could be the type to develop behind Woody or push guys like Turner. 7) Cedric Dockery, OG, Texas. Offensive line is probably the place where more late round draft picks become starters and I think Dockery has that kind of potential. Played at a big time school and has the size to be a good run blocker at the next level.
I'm against taking a tight end in the first round, but I can definitely see it happening. I won't be upset...I'd just be happier taking another position earlier. A blocking tight end like Quinn, Hill, or Pascoe can be had much later in the draft. McCoy in the second round would be great, but if this team is going to pay Leon Washington decent money, they might want to grab a bigger, more powerful back like Andre Brown or Shonn Greene. I'd much rather take a big school defensive line prospect like Clemson's Dorell Scott - Scott is more versatile than Hill and he has a much better motor. I don't see Hill being anything more than a rotational guy - I've heard a lot of bad things about his lack of hustle. Brian Hoyer is my top late round quarterback. I too believe he would've been special if Michigan State threw the ball more. I think the 4th might be a little high for him though... Ogletree has all the tools to be a dominant receiving force in the NFL - after tearing it up at his pro day, he'll go a lot higher than people expect...maybe the beginning of the third round. ...can't complain about taking two offensive linemen late in the draft. Maybe we draft someone like Cincy's Trevor Canfield in the third, instead of a defensive lineman.
Mr.E - you obviously have done your research. Can we just agree to disagree on Gilbert. I agree with your first three points. That is way to high to take a flyer on Hill. Love to trade down though and really like the "Bear" in the later rounds.
I just cant justify a tight end I know Pettigrew is really good but so far it seems that Keller is our only hit in terms of tight ends. Other than that it looks good
Pettigrew reminds me of Kyle Brady. I want Moreno and if he is gone, Ill trade down. If I can't trade down....I think I'll take... Nicks. People forget this kid is a junior and already broke most of Larry Fitz Big East records. He is a Baller.
TCGF..........nice effort. I think there's a decent chance we draft Pettigrew. The Jet Fans at RCMH will probably go nuts. True Jet Fans who follow the draft, know that Pettigrew would be a good addition to our running game and Red Zone threat. Honestly, if we draft Offense in Rd 1........Moreno should be the best player on the board. I do have a feeling someone like Philly may move up for Moreno or the Chargers may take him just before our pick. McCoy would be fine with me, and I have Hill in my mock in Rd 3. Instead of 2 of O-lineman a Safety or CB would be nice in a later rd.
Whoops. I confused him with Britt for a minute. Article I read this morning scrambled my brain. I'll stand by Nicks over Pettigrew though. Weak TE draft makes him look better.
I actually like the Pettigrew pick. If McCoy falls that far, we should definitely take him.. Sammie Lee Hill is a good pick since he could line up all over the defensive line. I'd prefer Dorrell Scott though. I like Ogletree if he's there and Hoyer would be a nice developmental guy. Dockery is good but Joel Bell will likely be gone much earlier. Plus, he's probably more of a pass-blocking LT. We should be looking for someone who specializes against the run. But overall, that'd be a great draft.
