This would be so much of a smash mouth guy like Rex wants :D too bad we'll never get him :(

    Jorvorskie Lane, Texas A&M
    Height: 6-0. Weight: 285.
    Projected 40 Time: 4.76.
    Projected Round (2009): 6-7.
1/5/09: Should have declared last year when he was a fourth-round prospect and a coaching change was made. No surprise that Mike Sherman didn't know how to utilize Jorvorskie Lane; Lane rushed for 93 yards and five touchdowns on just 35 carries.

5/26/08: Jorvorskie Lane continued to add to his rushing touchdown total, notching 16 in 2007. He had 780 yards on 169 carries, a 4.6 average.

2007: A two-ton truck with legs, Jorvorskie Lane is actually 30 pounds heavier than Jerome Bettis was. Scored 19 rushing touchdowns in 2006.

I think Shonn Greene has just as much power and more speed.

Reminds me more of Ironhead than Bettis. Bettis was special.

too bad that everyone on the field is faster than him. He might be a good fullback at best, or a strictly goal line back. But I could see Rex Ryan wanting this guy real bad.

...he's actually a lot faster than he looks. Lane isn't going to be a breakaway threat, but he can do some damage, especially against teams with undersized linebackers.

We already have a similar player on the roster...Jehuu Caulcrick.

I hope the Jets give Jehuu an opprortunity, he at least would be a good ST player.

i made a whole post about him in a previous draft thread and my sig has said such ever since i posted his youtube highlight. hell its in my sig

last year i was raving we draft Laron Mcclane out of Bama for FB and hes proven to be more than a steal for the Ravens.

id love to nab him and have richardson teach him how to be a FB he can block like a fucking OG and runs alot quicker than people think. nothing amazing but definitely could be a devastating blocker and short yardage back who would break an occasional 15-25 yard run IMO.

specially since Mike Sherman fucked him his senior year and mismanaged him and did not know how to use him. a real coach could make this kid a draft steal.

It seems like there are at least two players in this draft, McGee and Lane, who people claim got screwed over by Mike Sherman. And its not like the Packer fans like him.

I love this guy. That one highlight of A&M v. Texas, where a DB tries to go head to head with Lane, it's just breathtaking.

If we make a pick in the 7th and leave Lane on the board I will be very disappointed.

I'd love this too and the McClain FB/RB Ravens pick really makes it legit. Love the Lane.

This guy certainly has potential and he has pretty good feet for such a large man. His stock has fallen considerably, however, and Lane has to bear the brunt of the blame for this. It all began when Sherman came inas the new HC and he informed Lane that he was switching him to fullback AND that he wanted him playing in 265-269lb weight range. Sherman wanted Lane to be lighter because he played better at lower weights in his collegiate career and because Sherman wanted to utilize him extensively in the short passing game. Weight control has always been an issue with Lane and from what I heard he came in closer to 300Lbs. The rap on him is that he is a naturally very strong and talented kid who is lazy and unmotivated when it comes to diet and conditioning.

At his Pro day last month, he showed up weighing 300 lbs, failed to crack 5.0 (he ran 5.0 and 5.11) in the 40 and benched 225 only 17 times. He also sucked at the East West Shrine game where he showed up at around 297 and got stuffed on three carries inside the 5 yard line.

Someone will pick him up but most likely as an UFA with a strict weight clause in his contract. He's got potential but he's somewhat of an immature dope, particularly seeing how he is 22 with a girlfriend and three kids.

I didn't know these issues... yea he'll be a UFA and with that attitude he won't get very far in this league... I'd like it if we give him a shot but nothing more at this point.

I lived in WAC country and I can tell you these two things:

Jarron Gilbert is the real deal.

    and

Jorvorskie Lane is a HUGE tailback. He was deadly in the redzone against Fresno State a few years ago...

I can provide you with an extensive list of college and pro players who were deadly in the red zone a few years ago. I think the most recent history is the most relevant to any current evaluation of prospects discussion and for all intents and purposes, he's prepared himself poorly, if at all, to be a viable NFL prospect. He's an UFA at best right now and needs a radical DePlaxicification operation performed on his brain if he is to have any chance of applying his potential and becoming a productive pro player. DePlaxification is somewhat similar to an Owendectomy in that they are considered very risky procedures with high long term failure rates although the potential for excellent results in the short term is generally regarded by some experts to be good.
