Ithaca does contain some interesting homosexual/hippie bread of human beings. This is their locals not their colleges in the general area, Ithaca/Cornell.
Anyone from up there know of any nearby public golf courses? I wouldn't mind getting up early for a quick nine before heading out to the campus.
You're right, I missed your point completely. Now I got it. Sometimes I'm a little sllllooooooowwwww.
Thanks Doc, I just checked out the websites for the closest 3 public courses on that list. I wish the courses in NJ had greens fees as low as these upstate NY courses. All three of the courses I checked out have weekend rates of around $30-$35 for 18 holes with a cart. I remember playing upstate in the Catskills once and it was around $60 for our entire foursome to play 18 with 2 carts.
No doubt. Firefox is probably the best Ive played at. Or Erie. Pine Grove is my backyard though, I like going there.
Since I assume most will be coming from NYC, you might check out the Ford Hill CC, which is in Whitney Point, right off of 81 about halfway between Binghamton and Cortland. I have played this course a few times. It's got four nine hole courses. Some nice vistas from certain locations. Here's the link: http://www.golf.com/golf/courses_travel/coursefinder/course/0,28290,1493196,00.html
Unfortunately Windham CC is up to 42 weekday, cart included. Gotta pay for that new clubhouse, I suppose.
I haven't tried Foxfire yet... but I'm very close to getting a season pass a Links at Erie for like 350-400 bucks. Have you tried the course at the state park? Real nice.
Big Blocker, According to mapquest Ford Hill CC is about 30 minutes from Cortland, would you say it is worth the extra driving to play this course as opposed to the one's that are right outside of Cortland? I'm always happy to play on pretty much any new course I've never played, but it's always nice to get a word of mouth recommendation.
Thunder, I was thinking more about on the way up. I frankly don't know the courses right in Cortland, so I can't compare them. But fwiw 30 minutes is not a long drive on 81, and I doubt it takes that long. Those numbers are always overstated. It's 23 miles on a highway. I don't want to oversell Ford Hill. It's a nice enough place with some great views, and you get to mix up a group of four nine holes. I had fun there. Can't speak to courses closer to Cortland.
i think ford hill and fire fox are pretty close... a few miles (rt 26?). anyway i've lost a few balls on fire fox. pretty reasonable prices.
