a friend of the family works for Porky's Products. anyone in the tristate area should know them. point in case, i get a call from him around 9:30 and he tells me that his boss is going to be on a conference call with Mike Tannenbaum and he was invited along. the call was regarding input for this upcoming draft. I guess theyre getting together with the big money people and just trying to get a feel for their outlook, laugh if you guys want but I dont make up shit like this for my own amusement. it was scheduled for 10 AM so he was asking me for some quick opinions about this weekend. he kept it short cause he was obviously pressed for time. the first thing out of my mouth was, tell Tannenbaum, "whatever you do, dont draft Josh Freeman." whoever wants him on this board take your moment to bash me but I feel like I spoke for most of us here when I said that. i talked to him a for a few minutes about other prospects, opinions, and some possible mid to late round sleepers. but if anything gets vocalized on that conference I hope its that. im gonna call him between noon and 1 and ask him how the call went. but it was an exciting and random way to start my morning, thought you guys would like to know.
Funny...before I even read what you wrote I was thinking to tell him the same thing "Don't draft Freeman"
Would be interested to know some of the prospects that were discussed, and which ones he gave positive feedback on...
Coach....write this down on a piece of paper.... "MBGreen owes me a beer". excellent work, sir....let's hope Tanny heeds the message.
dying to know the outcome of said call. The other thing I would have said is dont take DHB, and if at all possible trade down and look at guys like Jarron Gilbert and Donald Brown.
I'm gonna have to agree with that...if we move up to take Sanchez obviously our coaching staff sees something really special in the kid. If not, I think Kenny Britt is gonna be an outstanding receiver and a big fast target would help out our offense regardless of who the QB is
haha no problem. glad you two agree. i didnt tell him to say that. i told him dont draft josh freeman at 17. theres a HUGE difference between me thinking drafting 1 qb prospect would be a bad idea and telling them to steer clear of qbs at all. i told him other things people might agree/disagree with. id go on forever but i dont want this turning ingto a debate.
lol he called me back while i was typing the previous post I'm summarizing the rest now ill let you know what was basically said within 20 minutes.
Would this 'input for the upcoming draft' be related to catering? I think I'd have a problem thinking that Tanny was consulting a meat supply company about draft prospects.
HA! I was thinking the same thing  I think we may need to be worried unless Coach K's buddy get the message thru to Tanny
rofl yeah i know what your thinking. it wasnt like I'm saying Tanny is turning to executives for Draft War Room strategies. but it wasnt just Porky's either. it was all the big whigs who are dishing out the money for the PSL's. and they were just fielding questions and trying to get a general consensus for how they feel moving forward. WHAT CAME OUT OF THE CONVERSATION -They like what they have in camp, but the team will be looking for a WR come draft day. -Kris Jenkins breakdown was brought up. Tanny said the defense will be "very different". Basically to the point where the whole defense wont rely on Kris Jenkins. They feel theyve addressed the defensive side of the ball agressively enough through FA. I think this means a 3-4/ 4-3 hybrid is a sure thing. its what he ran in BAL and it would mean less double teams for Jenkins. -When asked about Thomas Jones, the response was "we expect him in mandatory training camp, but we will be looking for a RB in the mid to late rounds. unless a value pick presents itself." -ON QUARTERBACK Clemens will get his shot, the organization feels he was never given anything resembling a fair shot when he took over for Pennington. They also believe he has a great grasp of the system. Specifically, they feel he learned alot from Favre last year regardless if anyone says otherwise. They sounded pretty confident about him.I'd say theyre for real about being set with who they currently have. My friend said dont be surprised if they still make a move though. So my guess is, either a trade up for Sanchez. or NO QB AT ALL in the draft. In Conclusion, sounds like offense early in the draft, defense for depth. but with Tanny if value presents itself he will pull the trigger.
I dont know how I'm forgetting this but theyre definitely looking for a TE to pair with Keller. I believe Pettigrew was mentioned in conversation but his 40 time at the combine seemed to have turned off a few teams of giving him a definite 1st rd grade. smoke and mirrors? we'll see. but another tidbit i forgot. im sure its Clinkskales the scouting director whos pushing for Pettigrew cause he was one of the other people from the Jets on the line with Tannenbaum.
That's pretty good news the "unless a value pick presents itself" means Knowshon Moreno . At this point my bet is we will trade down some spots (high 20ies), unless Moreno or Maclin or Sanchez (impossible I know) fall to us at #17, and draft a WR in rd1. The team might be thinking about trading up for Sanchez but only if we don't have to give away a whole draft.
